When the new cd drops I'd like them to play every song on the album in their shows once they start touring for it.

I'd like that too, but I don't think it will happen.

We'll be lucky to get 2-3 more new songs put into the setlist.

The results for this would have been way too broad. I know about the search function. Half your posts must be telling people to search and mentioning how everything was discussed before.

On to the GNR vs Metallica thread for you, I guess.
-----------

I think it would be a good idea to play the whole album. let's say it has 12 songs, throw in WTTJ and Nightrain first and end with NR, SCOM, YCBM and PC for instance.

Why not? The fans there won't know why they play it all? He could just say he's been putting the album together for 10 years and wants to showcase it, simple as that.
And if the songs and album are great all the better. Better.

Please this topic has shown up at least 3 times in the last couple of weeks so excuse me for pointing it out. It was your choice to take offense anyways.

GNR VS Metallica may be old but at least theres something to discuss. Your topic is just an idea, one that has already been thrown around at that.. something that most people are just going to say "o yeah that would be cool.. but it probably wont happen" to. So whats the point? Theres nothing to discuss.

Once again, like I said it was your choice to take offense and throw around sarcasm. So forget about it buddy I'll leave your thread alone.

Excuse me , but that would be:
1. a bore
2. a rip off
3. a sell out

The fact is, people come to hear the classic: Nightrain, Jungle, OTGM, SCOM, etc etc.
GNR is what it is because of the older songs. To do only the new songs would be unfair to the fan base, and besides, NO band has ever tried to pull that on its fans. Further, Axl has been very explicit that the old songs will remain part of the repetiore.

Great idea. Metallica did this a week before the Black album came out. It created a good buzz about the album. Even got MTV talking about that show.

EDIT: I thought you meant 1 show. I see now you meant for the whole tour. Not likely to happen. Last year, I suggested they do like Queensryche did in the early 90's on the first leg of their Empire Tour. Play classics, played Mindcrime in its entirety, and then played more hits. I think it would be an excellent show.

You'd think you were talking about the 2002 tour.

Why bother even releasing a new album with new material then. Stop playing any unreleased songs and just play most of AFD and some UYI.

Oh bullcrap! So in the UYI era, they played mostly AFD? So they played mostly AFD instead of promoting UYI?? Since you say they only want to hear the old stuff, then why did they play new stuff in the UYI tour? How the hell is the new stuff supposed to become classics, if they don't play them? Are you suggesting we wait 5-10 years to play alot of them? I'm sorry, but that would be stupid to just play the classics all the time instead of CD....

If the album is strong enough, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to do that  Wink  AFD had so many monstrous hits that it's easy to fall back on them and let nostalgia take over.  If CD can achieve that same level of success, imagine hearing a phenomenal setlist but without the feeling of nostalgia!  Although, a small sefish part of me wants CD to be a cult favorite instead. Would they still play the entire album then?

I was just thinking about this last night and think it very well could be a possibility for one or two shows say the day before, or on the day of Chinese Democracy's release...

But definately in New York since Uncle Axl has a soft spot for the big apple now... hihi

I think the entire "chinese democracy" cd should be played at these shows. gnr fans are gnr fans. whether they be in the states or over seas. gnr fans should expect the same no matter where they are in the world. since this is a new band who have been recording new gnr songs since the late 90's, the majority of the songs played should be new ones. this will show that this is a new guns n roses and not the old gnr from the 80's. playing the new songs would let stinson and finck the chance to stand on their own away from the past away from slash and duff. because having them still do the old songs makes fans chant "where's slash?" it makes them want the past back when they hear the past played at each of these shows. as ive heard you need about two months in advance for promotion of cd. gnr has not had those months yet for the promotion of chinese democracy. but if they start playing all the new songs this will start the promotion for a realistic fall release. I hope the whole "chinese democracy" album will get start to be played in full because it's the way i believe the cd will really come out this year like axl said it would on the radio show interview he did.

Exactly if they dont showcase their work on the new album it will show they arent behind it and people will loose interest.

I think that would be great. seeing that the whole album is under 70min most likely. And that still gives them a 1 and a half to play old songs. I think when the album comes out they'll play longer shows. maybe about 3 hours like back in the day.

It would take a lot of balls

I hear there's a big problem for any classic band to tour US.
Us stations aren't willing to play their new stuff. Once you had a hit album from more than a decade ago, you'd be passed into classic rock stations that play only classic songs. Other stations don't touch classic bands. As a result, you'd have the hall-ful of audience that knew you by your old hits and naturally you'd end up having your set dominated by your past. Then you wouldn't be able to fully promote your new album. Is that true?

If so, isn't it boring? isn't it time for the situation to change?

It is time for a change. It is time for axl to make change. it time for new gnr to make the same change. the million dollar question is what will it take to make axl or new gnr make the change on this international tour?

I think it there would be too many ballads in the setlist and over run the time.

Even now when you put these together: November Rain, Madgascar, TWAT etc... Great songs but you don't want to be hearing them back to back (at least in a rock concert)
