I'm going to my first ever guns n roses concert in july , im a big fan of the classics and loved the old band (slash and co) so? would I be dissapointed by the line up and new songs at the concert?Huh thanks? Smiley
I must say, the old band is my all time favorite. But Robin and Fortus rock and I like the new band more and more (minus the excessive solos). You will not be disappointed.

the new band is fantastic, minus the solos (they will dissapoint you.) as for them playing the classics, it is phenomenal. The feeling that all of the stringed instruments have for these songs is incredible. All the guys up front are great, i tried to watch the drums and keyboards but it was boring, the guys up front kick ass, especially Finck. and of course Axl will blow you away.?
Why is it everyone is trashing on the solos?? If you watch any of the old guys shows, you will see there were also a lot of solos, some good and some really bad. The new lineup can really fucking jam and the solos prove this is a powerful lineup. The solos are a great idea on Axls part. Each memeber (minus Chris) get to share the spotlight for a few minutes. Robins solos are amazing. (if you dont like them then get over it, thats his style), Bumble's solos is decent but Dont Cry takes it over the top, Richards solo is great as well. Then you throw in the guys jamming to Beautiful come on its a piece of art. Yes the song isnt rock but who gives a shit, it sound excellent, and the lyrics to that song is very powerful.

I hope you enjoy your first Guns show, I had the chance to see them twice in 2002, and was blown away. The shows that Axl and the guys are doing now, are 10 time better than 02. Enjoy yourself go with a open mind, and dont let the select few shouting hate to Axl ruin the show for you. Dont even compare this group, to the others, because this group is way more powerful. I'm sure you can find some debating on that somewhere else on the boads.

'this group is way more powerful'..........Than which others Huh?.

People compare this band to the old one, and in their mind they have this idea that the old band were always amazing.

They had some bad nights like any other band back then too. It's just that people forget.

Some people never even saw the old line up but still think they were better than the current one.

The old line ups were amazing, but that doesn't mean this current one isn't. They're a great band in their own right and put on a great show.

Anybody who loves the music of GN'R will enjoy the show. And if you want to hear Axl sing those songs with a kick ass band, you'll enjoy it even more.

Forget the name issue, forget about who's not there, just go and enjoy the fact that these guys are out playing and having fun.  ok

have the band and songs still got the same kick to them? And can can the new members belt out the classics as good as the older members??? Tongue

Yes the band has some kick, not the same kick.....but would you really expect them to.
they can still belt out the classics but with a different sound, its more of a techno guitar sound if thats possible

Well, I went to Hammersmith last week with an exceptionally open mind and Im still not sure what to think on the whole. The 2+hr wait didnt help at the front, burning to near death.

A lot of the gig I enjoyed - mainly due to getting to see Axl and hearing some of my favourite songs ever live for the first time. He'll I even enjoyed the turgid rubbish of Live and Let Die. Still playing 2 covers after all these years Axl? Tsk.... (Mind you some would say 20 covers heh heh).

It was great for nostalgia reasons and for the great songs (on the whole) but a lot of it really pissed me off, see below:

Good:

Well, its Axl Rose isnt it.
Great songs, great setlist. Not much support for the newies unfortunately (but they are average at best IMO).
Cool pyros
Axl's awesome voice. Top form.
Great crowd - where were you obsessives hiding? Everone I saw shook their heads to the new tracks.

Bad:

2hr + wait in somewhere hotter than Satan's curry house.
The wilful destruction and ruin of the classic Mr Brownstone solo (amongst others).
2 keyboardists when Axl is pretty good at the keybs.
Endless shite pointless solos (Aguilera?!?! Cmon fer fuck sakes) when they couldve thrown in 3 or 4 extra songs,
Chris Pittman - the man whose fashion sense is dictated by Stevie Wonder.
Fortus vertical playing, and Slash style poses during Nov Rain.
Ron Thal's guitar - this band shouldnt need crap gimmicks.
Robin Finck throwing more cliche shapes than Lenny Kravitz at an air guitar contest.
Seb Bach trying to upstage everyone.
Stinsons scrunched up funny face when singing backing vox. Very weird looking chap.

(Some of those are a bit jokey before you all start screaming)

I could go on.

My missus loved it because shes not a fan of GNR as much as I, but at the end of the gig I just recalled the words of Johnny Rotten:

'Ever get the feeling youve been cheated?'

Sad to say, but Ive waited since 87 to see Guns N Roses and I left that gig knowing that what I saw wasnt Guns. I reckon I'll have to call myself an ex fan. Bollocks isnt it?!

There is only one way to find out, right? Personally, I loved the shows. Sure, there is 'room for improvement' and I wasn';t thrilled with everything, but on the whole, I'm going to see them again in a couple of weeks. Wouldn't do that if I hated the shows, now, would I?

Just go to the show, with an open mind, see for yourself.

Maybe i was a bit harsh to say Im an ex-fan (theres always Appetite!) but after waiting so many years and being such a mad GNR fan back in the day (the present to be honest) I have to admit that I was disappointed with the band. It all seemed a bit fake to me. If theyd played There Was a Time they may have won me over a bit more, fuck I love that song, but otherwise I dont think the new songs do the band name justice.

I know there are people on this board who'd bootleg the sound of a turd splash if Axl had done it but after so many years to see Richard Fortus that Nsync rock n roller ripping off Slash moves for the Nov Rain solo just felt like a massive anti-climax.

I have to admit that I was also fucked off to wait in the Apollo for 2+ sweltering hours.

Maybe im bitter that my fave band ever have been reduced to a revolving freakshow of silly guitars, keyboardists and cliches. Who knows?!

But dont worry about my rants, Im sure you'll have a blinder of a time. I actually really enjoyed it - it just wasnt GNR in my eyes.

Flame away!!
