The reason why Kid Rock is a so-called "media whore" is because you HAVE TO BE nowadays for the press (and therefore the public) to give a shit about you.
Kid Rock is playing the game of the music biz well. I'm not a fan of his music but whatever, he's done something right.

It is highly entertaining to me that Kid Rock said that some songs were poorly written (if he said that at all...I really doubt that he did)....
I am very sorry, I like Kid Rock, but he is miles away from being able to judge!

i met sebastian bach yesterday.... he said that he listened to everything axl has recorded for the last 10 years. some songs are great, but some not so
i don`t really think kid rock would consider some songs "poorly written".... but that`s just my opinion anways

Kid Rock has been a big deal where I live for like 15 years or so. Mostly because he was out working his ass off to get signed at like EVERY SHOW in the Detroit area for years and years. He actually lives right by a friend of mine out near Clarkston and we run into him every so often at a bar we hang out at.
Having said all of that, I've never really liked his music. Does that make his opinion on GNRs music invalid?? No. Who knows, maybe Kid Rock fans love the simplicity of stuff like "Only God Knows Why" and they think GNRs stuff like "Estranged" is a bunch of overdramatic shit. It's all good, it's just different strokes for different folks.
To be honest (no disrespect to the original poster), Kid Rock actually had every right to be like "HEY LOOK, I'm trying to enjoy a baseball game here! GET A LIFE". But he didn't. He entertained their conversation and maybe even told them a little of what they wanted to hear ("some other stuff will blow you away") just to make them happy. Who knows.
Either way, even though I've never been a fan of Kid Rock, that doesn't mean we should all shit all over him just because he said some of the songs he's heard were poorly written in his opinion.

I would have to agree with Kid Rock. Some of the songs that we have heard are poorly written let alone some of the stuff we haven't. OMG and Silkworms are horrible so what he said is not a stretch of the imagination. One of the rumored early producers or Brian May said similar things.

A person's celebrity status does not automatically imply that he or she will disassociate with the average person. It's appalling to see how many forum posters immediately go for the throat when it's something as inconsequential as this. Kid Rock had a conversation with someone next to him at a ball game, and he stated an opinion about something. What's implausible about that? It's not like we have a forum member talking about Kid Rock giving him advance copies of the next two GNR albums.

Some of you guys can slag Kid Rock all you want, but the fact is he is one of the most talented musicians out there today. He has managed to become relevant and accepted in like 3-4 different genres, which takes alot of creativity and talent. And anyone who said his lyrics blow hasn't ever really listened to him. His ballads are fantastic, as evidence by Only God knows Why lifting Devil Without a Cause to like 10-15X platinum.
Some of the people on this board need to learn to let it go a little, as an artist saying they don't like some New GNR songs doesn't make them a talentless hack. He has accomplished more than enough in his career to comment on the music of others. Very few artists have managed to be relevant in as many different genres as he has.
Kid Rock will change his style and do ANYTHING his record execs tell him to do to sell an album. The only reason he changed "genres" is because he isn't talented ENOUGH to remain relevant in any one of them.. thus the change from time to time, it's all for record sales. He's not very talented at all, most his songs are horrible and the lyrics look like a high schooler wrote them. That being said, he at least puts on a decent live show, and there are tons of hot sluts there, so I give him props for that.

okey you're a naive person judging from what you are writing.. not talented?.. he must be talented if he wasn't he would not have been famous in all those genres.. and no he is not changing genre on every new album he's releasing.. he's mixing different genres to a whole new genre, and he is great doing that just look at his record sales..
Kid Rock is talented
the best lyrically song hes written is "only god knows why"... and if you listen to it or at least read the lyrics you would probably would change your opinion on this so called untalented artist.
it maybe look like a feel sorry for yourself song when you read the lyrics. but when you hear the song.. well it's just great..
know you're artist or subject before you talk about talent.. kid rock is a great artist and performer.. he's not in the same universe as axl when it comes to who's the best.. but that's because.. axl has his own universe that he rules and noone is close to be as good as him..
sorry for my english. swedish 16 year old cocky mutha-fucka who happens to know a whole lot about gn'r and kid rock and other rock n' roll acts

Mr. I, GnR changed styles with their albums. Listen to AFD then the Illusions, they sound very different, does that make them not talented enough in any one category?

I'm not a fan of Kid Rock's music, but he worked to get where he is today. Furthermore, as far as I know he plays all or nearly all of the instruments on his studio records.
I tend to disagree with your comments about changing genres, Mr. Intensity. What about changing genres in an effort to challenge himself in other ways besides sticking with the same one? As a career musician, shouldn't he be trying to push his record sales higher? Artistic integrity is respectable, but if someone's going to bury himself or herself by going that route is it worth the effort? And do you know for a fact that he will do anything that the record executives tell him? Or to use a scenario such as you've proposed as an example, if you found yourself to be in a situation in which your music wasn't "good enough," would you feel obligated to maintain and conform to your own shortcomings regardless of whether or not you'd be losing money?
It's true: anyone can do what he does with enough effort, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The problem is that a lot of criticism falls short, and surely everything isn't as horrible as people make things out to be.
