I wonder if GNR prefers the smaller more inimate shows. Judging by the reaction to the London gig, and the NY shows it seems like they perform more passionately in the inimate settings

5000 seaters are perfect. The sound is usually infinitely better-the crowds more intense. It's a no brainer. However, Axl has built this band for big shows and big sound. They should be able to pull all size venues off without a problem.

Well, they were both just a warm up, really... You can't expect a warm up to be in a much bigger place.

Since May 12th is my only Gn'R concert so far, it might not be my place to comment, but it wouldnt be surprising if the band largely prefered playing the smaller, more intimate gigs instead of the huge venues.
I think they know the most die-hard, of us die-hard fans would saw off a limb for tickets to a show like the Hammerstein, or Hammersmith, and will be purely there to rock the fuck out, and not with a clipboard deducting marks for each missed note, or how Brain didn't play YCBM like Matt used to.
When your surrounded by you're most loyal fans, I think it would eliminate alot of the pressure and anxiety that would come attached to a 80,000 person venue, not to mention the sound quality is far superior

I think that I have seen great Gn'R shows in London ,ONT in 2002 in an arena as well as 2 great shows on May 14th and 15th in NYC. I would say that the band is going to have to enjoy playing smaller venues, because no way are they selling out (other than possibly MSG) large venues without ChiDem.

Don't all bands prefer larger venues? More money for pretty much the same work.

Well, they won't do it here. Something tells me that Oslo or some of these cities that Gn'R are playing, don't exactly have the same competition for concert dollars that large cities in America do.

So, you think London doesn't attract Big touring dollars? Right, OK then. What large bands do a tour that does not include London? It's one of the, if not the most important city in the world.

The 02 Tour figures indicate what will happen in 06 if Gn'R tours here with no album/single. No way will they be booked into arenas without an album. If they are then the places will be half full in most cities.

i saw them at rock am ring which was a pretty big place
there were 50000-70000 people attending. the sound was perfect though and axl`s voice was just fantastic. when i saw the teleprompters being installed on the wings(right word?) of the stage i was happy on the one hand, but a little nervous about axl`s voice on the other hand..... but all my doubts were proven wrong. axl was the only (!!) singer, that was running on the sides of the stage or even running in general and it didn`t effect his voice the slightest....
the crowd in germany was great, but i`d love to see the band in a more intimate venue anyways... i guess the concert in holland won`t help either
i heard that it sold about 40000 tickets allready....

donno about the band, I guess they'd say size is less important than quality, but I prefer to see them in smallish places.
I might have missed the opportunity that knocked only once to see them in small venues.

Money wise...no. Tune up wise...yes. I personally hope they do 5,000 seat arenas and try to sell those out then add another one the next day or the day after. That way I can go more than once!!

I think they do so far. It's more intimate and I'm sure it feels great looking out and seeing all the seats full.

It's not the size of the venue that matters, it's the energy from the crowd.
