I was talking with someone about this recently and i agree somewhat with what he was saying. He said that some of the newer songs need more lyrics.. for example i think Chinese Democracy would be better with some more lyrics.  Also, IRS has a lot of repeated lyrics...

What do you guys think?

I think they are all very solid so far. Some are definately better than others.

The Blues was perfect in 2001 (in all ways) and its still lyrically great. Better has a lot of complex (ie hard to sing) words/lines but it works well. TWAT is great too.

Eerie, I just realised my list of strongest songs lyrically matches with Axl's list of favourites  nervous

When it comes to the new songs, lyrically, Madagascar is the weakest of the 10 we've heard thus far, followed a close second by Rhiad probably...

I absolutely adore Madagascar, but sometimes when I listen to it, I can still picture Axl to this very day having troubles penning the lyrics, or scrapping the song, and starting from scratch a million times over... Undecided

I actually think Better and IRS could use less...Axl's puking out words in such a hurry he doesnt have time to catch his breath...nor do I when I try to sing the songs..  hihi

Has anyone noticed the lack of swearing in the new songs? the worst it gets is in silkworms (which appearently won't be on the album) and the reference to 'masterbation' in ChiDem (which is pretty tame and not literal)

Could it be that Axl has done an RHCP and cleaned up the language to make it more commerically appealing?

Some of IRS is fine but the one passage gets fuddled with words really easily and you cant understand what he is saying.

Feeling like a dumb right on the lawn
felling like a greaver thats gotta be sung
if i can share poop right along etc

i know the actual words, but that verse is rough Tongue

I think IRS is pretty weak in terms of lyrics.

"What would you do if I, gave my heart to you"? What does that have to do with the IRS exactly?

I still like the song got a really great melody and it sounds good.

Better and TWAT have amazing lyrics.

Are you retarded?

"Better" and "The Blues" are the songs that DON'T need more lyrics. They are the strongest songs of the new ones, lyrically.

Wasn't overly wordy lyrics what people wanted GNR to get away from? I think the new songs are fine as they are.

How long have you been a fan of gnr? Have you not learned that a lot of Axls songs have hidden meanings and are not meant to be taken literally?

Or maybe Axl is just older now and the old attitude is gone and atleast I don't need swearing or well let's say I don't care do they contain it or not aslong as it sounds good

no i'm not talking about these songs. mainly IRS and chinese.

however i do believe that a lot of the songs we haven't heard yet are going to have some amazing lyrics.

i thought songs like locomotive with a lot of great lyrics do set the bar pretty high...
