After a week of casual listening (interrupted by an insane week at NYC), 'especially in michigan' is my favorite song by far.  Second fav is "if".  I'm enjoying the funk songs but it's going to take me a while to get used to the slow ones.

After a week Im enjoying alot and Frusciante really picked his game up.

However, much like the Illusions, Im starting to think that one album culled from this would have been wiser

Mars is awesome also, just keep listening.

There isnt a bad song on there either.

My least favs on Mars are

So Much I and Death oF a Martian

but overall its awesome as well

If u were gonna make one 14 track CD what would u put on there?

1.Dani california
2.Snow
3.Hey
4.Stadium Arcadium
5.Hump De Bump
6.She's only 18
7.Especially In Michigan
8.Slow Cheetah
9.Wet Sand
10.Desecration Smile
11.Tell Me Baby
12.Hard to Concentrate
13.Animal Bar
14.Make you feel Better

These arent in order of my favs, but if i had to make one CD with 14 songs, I guess id choose these.

Im glad you did.

This is an album(s) that Im more than glad to have as a part of a collection, which is coming a long way from since I only buy maybe half a dozen albums a year.

I was worride Id only end up liking Dani California and another potential single, but the whole first album is entirely filler-less in my opinion, while I can only hope Ill soon have the same opinion of Mars. ok

LOL.... wow, I don't know how anyone would've spotted this.? It's funny because I just listened to Tom's Greatest Hits and Dani California earlier in the day.

Well, they obviously sped up Mary Jane's Last Dance on this file you posted (and I don't like how they are saying it is confirmed when they play the songs over top of each other)... but they really are the same!? ?Shocked

Now I'm going to think of this everytime I put on Dani California, thanks D? rant

I remember the DJ that interviewed Stinson a wee while back pointed that out.

Tommy even exclaimed "it's Tom Petty!"

I dunno, they are very similar. but I heard sour notes all the time when they play it on top of each other...didn't confirm anything for me.
I don't think RHCP was aware of this at all, if they were they would have left that 1 song off the 28 track album! there are plenty of other singles on there, and the b-sides Ive heard are just as good as the rest! so they could easily have replaced Dani California.

I agree, the Chili Peppers have been one of, if not the most origial bands for nearly 20 years.. Although I do find it odd they chose THIS song as the first single. If it was the 3rd or 4th single, I don't think it'd be a big deal, even though it really isn't a big deal. Anyone know if either Petty or RHCP commented on this?? I'd imagine Petty would be pretty laid back about it all.

Haha yeah, i've heard a lot of people saying they've ran out of ideas.

Well look, the album has 28 TRACKS.  Tongue
Which means they have an excess of ideas.

It's only the chords behind the verse stolen isn't it?

I noticed the little solo part's melody was also in The White Stripes "Fell In Love With A Girl".
