i'm not familiar with the crowd of these big festivals since i've never been to one.. but if its mostly semi-gothy metalheads that are  more into slipknot and metallica then they might not take gnr too keenly.. i know plenty of people, formerly of my own circle of friends, who were into the whole heavy metal scene but didnt like gnr because of all the bad rep axl had

Thanks 2 those who went 2 Mustang Harry's on May 12th. That made my first concert experience something I'll never forget. Never did I feel like I fit in anywhere as much as I did amongst you strangers

If it was the original GN'R lineup...I'm 110% certain that they would get an absolutely AMAZING reception. But since its just Axl with a hole new band I think it will be a poor if not awful reception.

I dunno about alot. After 2002 it's more widely known Slash is long gone. I think Download will be receptive to the band.

playing the festivals is smart, because people who wouldn't go to just a gn'r solo show get to see the new band...and seeing the new gn'r live is the best publicity they can get...

Plus i know they throw a lot of bottles and shit during download. Wouldn't be surprised if Axl stops in a song and tells them to calm down. hihi

how many people wil get chance to throw bottles when G N' R are on stage, the whole crowd will be packed like sardines and will be unable to move their arms nevermind throw bottles. plus when the sea of people starts to move and jump you aint got a clue where you are  Grin Grin

well i think they will be received well. gnr is still a guitar driven band ok

I'm still old school too, and consider GnR to be hard rock/metal, like not as hard core as bands you mentioned but during their time they were considered metalish and alot of metal heads i know still consider AFD to be one of the best albums ever.

But that band you talk of is NOT the band we're getting for Download.  I purchased SEVEN tickets for me and my friends etc to go (I Paid for everyone) because I was so excited about GnR (among other bands)... I then watched Rio and my heart sank.  Truly, I was scared for Guns N' Roses at Download.  They are not the raw hard rock band you saw before... it's a COMPLETELY different band.  Not as raw... not as heavy... not as guitar driven (anyone who says they're the same band is blind ... since the new members are just that... new.  Not the same.  Therefore ... different... www.dictionary.com for definitions guys).

haha...but the music is the same for the most part Tongue AFD is GnR's most metal album to date so theretically the AFD fans should get a kick out of seeing these songs performed by the orig (only) GnR frontman. but some people will prolly be, "where's slash", metal fans are usually diehards for the guitarists hihi

The new band is much more guitar driven, they have three lead players for crying out loud.

And three fucking keyboard players including Axl!  Sorry dude, but proprotionately, they're NOT guitar driven as much as the classic band... you can't say I am not right!  Come on, put aside the differences of our opinions, and just admit that this band is not as hard rock as the classic.  Let me just make you aware.  Metallica are headlining the Sat.  That day sold out ages ago.  GnR's day, the Sunday, hasn't, and wont sell out ... I hate to say.  Axl's new band looks more like a vegas act.  Shiny purple lights everywhere, and the clothes Axl wears... he looks like a fucking pimp!  He used to be the epitomy of sleazy rock.  Not anymore dude... not anymore Sad

I don't think the Donnington crowd's reaction will be great, to be honest, especially if they continue with all the solos and the wankery, but neither is it likely to be bad. At least they're not playing on the night England play in the World Cup ?ok

GNR's UK tour will go down much better, obviously.

Guitars have nothing to do with it. The Prodigy have played the festival. If the crowd can mosh to it, it's all good.

The Album will come.

« Reply #36 on: June 03, 2006, 04:49:43 PM »

I believe it will depend on how much energy the Gunners can create from the opening. An opening of WTTJ, Nighttrain, Mr. Brownstone, with high energy and plenty of intensity will blow the crowd away. Then Axl can rest for a solo before YCBM or Its So Easy. Then I think the crowd will be theirs and they can do what they want from there.
To answer the question I think that GNR will do just fine there.

if GnR ever play a concert with no guitar players then i think it's safe to say that there will be a riot nervous nervous

In gnr, guitars have "EVERYTHING" to do with it peace

True, I just meaqnt that guitars aren't the be all and end all at Download. Obviously none of us ever want to hear anything like what we heard on that RIR stream from GNR ever again? ok

But I also agree with jsg2295. WTTJ and It's So Easy should see them off to a good start, so they don't want to then go on faffing around with knockin' On Heaven's Door for ten minutes like they did at RIR. I feel KOHD is generally too early in the set at the moment anyway.

lol..true...that had to have been a monitor mix or something though....people who went to RIR said it was great

I feel KOHD is generally too early in the set at the moment anyway.

Yeah they should move it right off the setlist....like after they go home hihi i wish they would stop playing the cover tunes
