GENE SIMMONS: 'Our Thanks To You For Making Our Dreams Come True' - May 29, 2006?

KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has commented on "VH1 Rock Honors", the first-ever show to pay homage to the legends who influenced the sound of hard rock. This year's celebration honors the music and influence of JUDAS PRIEST, KISS, QUEEN and DEF LEPPARD. Premiering on Wednesday, May 31 at 9:00 p.m., "VH1 Rock Honors" was taped Thursday, May 25 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will include performances by all of the honorees as well as tribute performances by GODSMACK (who are paying tribute to JUDAS PRIEST), FOO FIGHTERS (QUEEN) and THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS (DEF LEPPARD). Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and ex-GUNS N' ROSES axeman Gilby Clarke joined an all-star band consisting of Rob Zombie (vocals), Slash (guitar; VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES), Tommy Lee (drums; M?TLEY CR?E), and Scott Ian (bass ? yes, bass; ANTHRAX) for a rendition of the KISS classic "God of Thunder" as a tribute to KISS. Meanwhile, QUEEN guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor made a surprise appearance with FOO FIGHTERS, who were paying tribute to QUEEN at the event.

Commented Simmons: "Backstage is a place most people don't ever see. Backstage is where you get to see Ace and I hugging and wishing each other well. It's where Brian May and Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers say how blown away they were by the set...and likewise from us to them...where Tommy Lee is jumping up and down after having played with Rob Zombie, Scott Ian, Gilby Clarke and Slash and shouting out loud what a ball he had...where Slash keeps saying how intimidating we are in our KISS boots...where four guys who wear KISS war paint take what they do seriously...and with gratitude to the fans who make it all possible.

"Our thanks to you for making our dreams come true."?

The legendary guitarist said that he does have some contact with Guns n' Roses singer Axl Rose, however.

"I've actually sent him Christmas cards, just to be cordial, but he never returns anything."
