I like Ron Thal (Bumblefoot) yes he's the new guy and Axl's gave you all a small rant about the "One week wonder" "Two week wonder" "The new guy" The Nuke"
He seems like a really nice person, runs around on stage, also polly has some great riffs to bring to the band. Im for The Nuke!  ok

Wow, you missed alot of what B had to offer. If you keep your eyes on him, Bucket will amaze you with some very interesting movements: big steps at the end of PC, three fingers to the mouth during the opening and rant from YCBM, the robot motion, the scarecrow, and the break dance with guitar strap on (see OMG from Rio 3). He not only is an amazing player but a fascinating person to watch. That being said, Thal does very little for me; he plays Bucket's parts adequetely though not at the same level as B. Unfortuantely, he is a bore on stage: a little running around, standard solo stance although he is strange to watch weilding a huge axe considering he is a really short guy, and typical guitar pucker face when he shreds. No doubt a great player, but Thal presence does not stand out in the same respects as Bucket.

Oh well, the band sounds terrific nonetheless.

I find that i'm far more powerful and effective when i can celebrate another's way, rather than to wish to own it.

Because it's fun. Because, unlike a depressing number of rock fans, he has a sense of humour and irony...

I love Buckethead, but to me Ron does a great job in being of similar (yet different) importance. Technical brilliance and emotion in optima forma. His technical abilities easily hold up next to Buckethead's in GNR. Just like they always measured up when the two got compared, based on their solo-efforts in the past few years. As a matter of fact, Ron usually is regarded as the technically more accomplished one of the two (for what it?s freakin' worth). Next to this I really love his stage presence, especially since I got to see him in Bumblefoot, when he?s really in his element. Imagining him getting this comfortable in GNR, I can already see a lot of cool things happening.

Don't get me wrong here; I know that not all people see both Ron and Buck as their longtime personal favorites. So I really respect them for just not (for instance) getting the same from Ron's feel for dynamics, compared to Buck?s (or his phrasing, whatever floats your boat). I just disagree with it, based on my preferences and experiences with the two. I really couldn?t point out the better guitarist when these two are on topic.

-PEACE-

Because it was a gift from Vigier and he thinks it's the best sounding guitar he owns. Next to this it symbolizes his quirky and humerous (Zappa-esque) take on music and the two aspects the name Bumblefoot (a bumblebee and a foot) consists of.

I dont think it's fair to say Bumblefoot "owned" Rio, as all three players put their heart and soul into their performace, but he was definately on fire, there are no doubts about it.

I think Buckethead's lasting impression on at least Gn'R's Portugese fans has more than faded because there is no real reason to miss Bucket's presence on stage with Gn'R in my opinion...

Ron plays Bucket's parts flawlessly while bringing his own "zest" to the pieces, and actually has some personality on stage, i.e. smiling/laughing/running, etc ok

dude.....  get it!

he doesn?t play out of key or hit the wrong notes....

No -- Robin DOES bend notes out of tune and flub notes all the time!  BUT I like his playing!!  It's slightly out of control, like Neil Young's solo playing (where he also consistently bends notes out of tune and muffs notes and phrasings).   The point is that Robin is not a very technically proficient player, certainly when compared to Ron, Buckethead or Fortus.   But he's also proof that being technically brilliant does not always translate into being an interesting or emotional guitar player.  Compare, for instance, Yngwie Malmsteen, who is an incredible technical player, but his playing always leaves me pretty flat next to someone like David Gilmour, who isn't a very technical player at all, but chooses great notes and tones.

That Nightrain was simply mindblowing. I 'm watching on AOL right now. Fortus is the fuckin' man as well. Finck brings the energy. These three are a great combo and together, make up for the absence of the Top Hatted One. Divide and conquer-guitar by committee-seems to be working. ok I love Bucket to death but Ron does seem to fit in better. Tongue
