the sound from the internet feed was "off the board", meaning, it wasn't what it REALLY sounded like in the crowd.

What we heard was the sound board mix.......you hear mostly vocals and non-amplified instruments, like drums, keys (vocals) etc....the guitars were low in the mix b/c they have STAGE VOLUME, while the keys, drums, vocals have little or no stage (keys) volume at all.

ive played shows where we got the audio "off the board", and compared to what people heard in the crowd, its totally different.

thats why the crowd sounded low.....

the only guitars u hear are very low rhythm guitars...sometimes the solo's pop thru the mix too much...

but again, what we heard was noa true representation of the real, total sound, and the crowd audio

Of course not. Just look (or listen) to the crowds reaction to Don't Cry when Bumblefoot played it on his solo. We could barely hear anything through the shitty broadcast, but the crowd was singing along and have fun..

Its common sense. If its a soundboard recording you wont hear a whole lot of the crowd.

yes, i do happen to be an expert in this field, thank you very much.
it was a Sound Board Broadcast, which just means we got a shitty sound, and a very twisted representation of what they relaly sounded like

Prove to me the crowd didn't hear the same thing.

I guess we'll have to wait for an audience recording to surface.

People AT THE SHOW said it sounded great.  I'll take their word for it.

AOL owes GNR a HUGE apology..........

all those who think that the sound we heard over the braod cast was how it sounded there are seriously delusional.

its not AOL's fault....

its the publics ignorance of the facts, thats all. ive played shows that sounded shitty on the board mix, but everyone said it sounded awesome out in the crowd. the board mix is usually just un-amplified sounds, like keyboards, vocals, drums...

thats why we heard soooo much keyboard sounds....trust me, in the real mix, those sounds are way low....we weren't hearing ANY of the stage volume that the guitar amps push out...the corwd hears that though

Seriously dude, do you think either the crowd or the band would have stood for a concert that sounded as bad as the broadcast?

if axl wants to go back and listen to the show to check it out, the last thing he would ask for would be the board mix if he wants to hear what the crowd heard....

however, if he wants to hear particular mistakes or small details, the board mix is good b/c it almost separates each instrument. you can really hear what pittman, for example, was playing by listening to the board mix

u DONT listen to the board mix for guitars......or crowd noise...the crowd always sounds dead on board mixes

The Rock in Rio 3 broadcast in 2002 was the same. Just a really shitty mix. I still think Axl's vocals sucked on 'Better' though.

W 23 AXL II is 100% on. I have done a bit of sound engineering in my time. The guys at the board are mixing to what they hear. So if the guitars sound good in person, that is that. Now they should have had a seperate feed for the broadcast that was mixed for that purpose but that is a bit of extra work.
