There are some faults with UYI, but I am basically happy with the tracklisting the way it is. There aren't really any songs I'd like cut. Don't see the point in a "fan's album." Tons and tons of great songs are buried in the vastness of the albums--Locomotive, So Fine, Pretty Tied Up, Dead Horse, Perfect Crime, etc.

What I would love to hear is a "Use Your Illusion...Naked" album. I'd love both albums remastered and remixed, with a rawer sound, less overdubs, and perhaps even Brain could redo Sorum's drumming.

In this order, this would have been the greatest GNR album. The rest (bad apples etc) could have could have been released as b sides or on a live album. Certain songs like, Shotgun Blues should never have been released imo

Coma
Estranged
Nov Rain
Breakdown
Civil War
Locomotive
Dont Damn Me
Pretty Tied Up
YCBM
14 Years
Yesterday
Dont Cry

Now youve got me started...The UYI are over produced. The guitars sound like shit. Listen to the demo of Bad Ob with Izzy singing. Its great way better than the album version. Listen to the Demo of Dont Cry or Nov Rain, again shit hot and much better than the overproduced mess that the Illusions became.

So yes 1 album with 12 songs and a different sound for the record would have seen GNR release the greatest rock album ever and they would have "buried" Appetite, but they didnt, and it didnt and they became a joke. But now people have forgotten that from 91 onwards GNR were seen as uncool by many.

Feel free to delete this rant and shoot me hihi hihi

Okay... fuck it... the short, short version.

Just rate 'em all, all at once...

I am gonna make a general concensus album whether some of you fuckers like it or not. The kind of album that would generally convert most people to Guns fans in 70 odd minutes.

Right Next Door To Hell   5.5/10 - This song never done a thing for me.
Dust n' Bones   8/10 - One of the stronger songs, but not quite a classic.
Live And Let Die   5.5/10 - Never liked McCartneys version either.
Don't Cry (Orig)   8/10 - Just a very, very good ballad. Not a classic one.
Perfect Crime   7.5/10 - Average but passable. Would not make my 1 album cut though.
You Ain't The First   1/10 - Pure crap.
Bad Obsession   8/10 - Pretty good, catchy, different.
Back Off Bitch   7.5/10 - Pretty good, rocks along, but childish lyrics though.
Double Talkin' Jive   8.5/10 - Like this one, it rocks and a great solo.
November Rain   9/10 - Classic ballad, 3 great solos.
The Garden   7.5/10 - Solo the strongpoint. It kicks ass, rythmic and heavy. Rest weaker.
Garden Of Eden  6.5/10 - Never got what they were trying to do here.
Don't Damn Me   8/10 - Pretty good, but crank the last 30 seconds up. That is magnificent rock!!!!!
Bad Apples   8/10 - Magnificent solo.
Dead Horse   7/10 - Just a good song on great albums.
Coma   9/10 - The first 7 minutes is hard rock heaven!!! Heavy as all shit and the middle solo is brilliant. The song drags on at the end though.
-----------
Civil War   9.5/10 - Love it, a great, great song.
14 Years   8/10 - Catchy, great wailing chorus.
Yesterdays   8/10 - No-one else was doing this then. Different and very good.
Knockin' On Heavens Door   8.5/10 - Great cover, they owned Dylans song after that.
Get In The Ring   7/10 - Would be higher but it is embarassing to play.
Shotgun Blues   4/10 - Really it is a very ordinary song for a band of Guns talent.
Breakdown   7/10 - Average song on great albums.
Pretty Tied Up   8/10 - Solo is breathtaking.
Locomotive   8/10 - Does drag on a tad.
So Fine   7/10 - Not too bad, but very cheesy.
Estranged   9/10 - An epic ballad. Being picky but it takes a while to warm up this song.
You Could Be Mine   9.5/10 - Ahhh! Magnificent metal/hard rock at it's finest.
Don't Cry (Alt)   8/10 - Above average ballad. Not in November Rain or Estranged's class though.
My World   0.5/10 - Pure crap.

I think it would have worked best, 2 per day.

one from UYI1 and one from UYI2.  The final day could have the 2 left over UYI1 songs.

It's too hard to rate 30 songs all at once accurately.  You need time to listen to them and evaulate them.

A few years ago I made a two 80 minute CD set for use in my jukebox. The idea was to group the best songs that were written during two different eras while giving the listener a frame of reference as to how the band's writing and creativity had progressed.

The two CDs were...

Guns N' Roses: Years of Destruction

Nightrain
Welcome to the Jungle
Shadow of Your Love
Move to the City
Mr. Browstone
Don't Cry
My Michelle
Bad Obsession
You're Crazy (Lies)
It's So Easy
You Could Be Mine
Sweet Child O'Mine
Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Patience
Rocket Queen
Paradise City

Guns N' Roses: Years of Illusion

Perfect Crime
Shotgun Blues
Don't Damn Me
Locomotive
Yesterdays
Right Next Door to Hell
Pretty Tied Up
Live N' Let Die
Civil War
14 Years
November Rain
Dead Horse
Estranged
Coma

I'm sure after the supposed next three albums come out I'll be adding a third disc to the collection; Guns N' Roses: Years of Democracy

Wow I couldn't disagree more. Dead Horse a 7? are you kidding me? the same rating you gave So Fine. And I don't know if I'm in the minority here But I can't take any rating seriously when they say Coma drags on too long at the end and rates Bad Apples the same as Don't Damn Me. DDM and Coma are the best songs on UYI 1. If Coma drags then what does November Rain do(for the record I like NR just trying to make a point). 3 solos (not that I mind) but they are very similar. Lyrically Axl repeats alot of the same stuff and the matt sorum drum roll gets over used in it. Coma is amazing and the last 2mins are brilliant. Listen to it with headphones and the lights off and you can actually feel the pain in that song. Axl and Slash at their finest that song is GnR.

Now here?s my UYI best of
1 civil war - what a fucking song
2 don't damn me - A great fuck you song to critics
3 14 years - if you can't see how important Izzy was to GnR listen to this song
4 Locomotive - WOW guitars everywhere what energy(wonder why they don't play this now with 3 guitarist
5 Bad Obsession - What ever happened to Teddy Zig Zag
6 You Could Be Mine - Matt fucking wails on this song All the guys are on top of their game LOVE IT
7 Dead Horse - Axls vocals are tight as hell. love the acoustic guitar intro and outro
8 Estranged - its amazing all around. Master fucking piece
9 Yesterdays - good ol rock and roll
10 Double Talking Jive - another Izzy great. The End solo worth the price of the CD alone. Miss Axls rants before this song
11 Don't Cry(org) - How ballads should sound. Slash is money
12 Coma - Lyrics, Music this song is the whole package never did 10min song feel so short. A true gem.

I know it may run alittle long but who here would complain.

14 years is a great song. 8/10

Lald and KOHD shouldnt be on any "Ultimate Illusions" CD, they are average at best. But Crash Diet complete would kick serious ass.

My album was very hard to come up with cuz of the 80 minute thing, I left off some of my favorite songs like Dead horse, Right Next Door To Hell, and Garden of Eden.

I dont understand the beef about Shotgun Blues. That song kicks so much ass its incredible.

I agree! I love the tempo of the song and it's aggressiveness. A few of the lyrics are a bit much, but in general I can't understand why more people don't like it (or even hate it).

First of all - leave off Civil War and KOHD since they were already released elsewhere.? Kill My World for obvious reasons and only put one version of Don't Cry.? ?I would also toss off You Ain't The First.?

Most of us also seem to agree that Bad Apples, Shotgun Blues and Back Off B*** are weaker tracks as well - B sides, if you will.

Now, we're down to a workable number - 22 songs (LOL).

The MUST HAVES I think we all agree on.

1.? Estranged
2.? Coma
3.? Locomotive
4.? Don't Cry
5.? November Rain
6.? You Could Be Mine

Problem is, this is about 50 minutes of music, which only leaves about 25 minutes open for more songs on a CD.? So if you left these on, you'd have to get really picky with the others.

This forces us to toss -
Get In The Ring, Garden Of Eden, Pretty Tied Up, So Fine, Breakdown and Double Talkin Jive.

We realistically then would get 5 of the following:? Dust & Bones, 14 Years, Yesterdays, Right Next Door To Hell, Live and Let Die, Perfect Crime, Dead Horse, Don't Damn Me, The Garden & Bad Obsession.? So 5 have to go.....

I'd get rid of Live and Let Die in a second, as well as one of the Izzy songs (Dust & Bones).? I'd also lose one of RNDTH or PC - I vote for keeping RNTDH.? So Perfect Crime is gone.? The final 2 that miss the cut - and it's a tough call - are the Garden and Don't Damn Me.? ?Therefore, we will add Dead Horse, Right Next Door To Hell, Bad Obsession, Yesterdays & 14 Years.? So my final FANS album is? - with this tracklisting.....

1.? Right Next Door To Hell
2.? 14 Years
3.? Yesterdays
4.? Don't Cry
5.? You Could Be Mine
6.? Bad Obsession
7.? November Rain
8.? Dead Horse
9.? Locomotive
10.? Estranged
11.? Coma

You might even could pack Perfect Crime back on here.  Smiley

That's a really good breakdown, but I think Don't Damn Me needs to be included just based on the guitar riff alone. It's such a great riff and has a lot of attitude, kinda like Nightrain in that respect. If that doesn't sell it, just remember the tag line at the end: "Smoke if you got 'em...alright...that sucked".

I agree that anyone who says Coma drags on in the end should be tarred and feathered

It's one of my favorite GNR songs period, and I can't wait for the last 2 minutes every time I listen
