i don`t think they`re that great, but he should definitely play that kind of stuff on the new VR album. otherwise it`ll end up being the same medicore, uninspired album like contraband was....

Well I was introduced to this a few months ago by booker/nesquick I believe or someone in the vr section... I just love it, the single note he holds then just makes the guitar weep... I love that type of playing, it has such feeling to me..
It's only one video, just one is the preview so you get to hear the highlights.. I think the overall song with the solo and vid are quite awesome... But hey I'm a slash fan so that doesn't hurt either..
it's 2003 for sure, don't know much more about it, an artist name elan is the singer..

The solo is awesome... just like his gig at the Jimy Hendrix tribute some months ago. It shows his playing is still great, it just didn't came out on Contraband.

I don't understand why stuff like that isn't on Contraband, I think it's probably cause he wanted to distance himself a little from that bluesy - GN'R type of sound.
And I think Scott is a big influence on that too. We all know he choose the songs which sounded the least GN'R like to put vocals over. I mean he said Izzy's stuff sounded to classic rock for him, to GN'R and Dave said that all the pre-Contraband material varieted from UYI 4 (he said 4
) till Rolling Stones sounding. Yet we don't see that stuff on Contraband. It's like Scott picked the most modern - non GN'R/bluesy/classic rock sounding songs to put vocals on.

Holy fuck does slash play with a lot of feeling in that song. Why can't velvet revolver be as good as that, i tried my hardest to like that band, but i think they just got the wrong singer, its a shame coz i still love slash and duff and when i hear him play this good it makes me wonder what might have been

I dont' remember any.
They probably just wanted to do a straight rock record. Wasn't one of the reasons they left GN'R because they just wanted to play simple rock and Axl wanted to do more complicated (and ballad) stuff and to evolve band. Unfortunately they (VR as a whole) probably don't have any interest or even talent (well, Slash obviously has to some degree, but Weiland doesn't) to create that type of songs, it was always Axl's thing. To me Slash's emotional solos are best at Estranged type epics.
In my opinion Contraband feels very numbing and forgettable as listening experience.

I managed to find the full video of Street Child for download, but I can't remember where...
Maybe it was Limewire?
Okay, here is the video clip of Slash playing on Street Child (just a clip of the solo.)
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=6AD82E9E759D64DE
This is the entire song (not video) and Slash's solo goes longer than in the clip. It's really awesome.
