I hear the Cult are reuniting. Why not bring them out for a bit? Buckcherry would be cool too.

The Twilight Singers would be a great opener. They rule.

AFI would be my top choice....different enough from GNR, but I think the fanbase would still like them. I only saw them live on radio station show, so they had a short 30 minute set and filled it well. The lead singer might be the only one I've seen live that is more active than Axl onstage...he's seriously like a whirling durbish.

Avenged Sevefold would also be great, especially since they are such huge fans. How about Puddle of Mudd? their not too big where they couldnt open for them...their styles are comparable, and their also huge fans (The Song drift and Die was written based on the Estranged lyric.) Silvertide wouldn't be bad either.

Audioslave and Korn seem to make the most sense.

Out of the other groups mentioned in this thread, I would vote for Weezer.

Silvertide would be my top choice.. they're up and coming and would probably jump at the chance to tour with them. ?I saw them with Van Halen 2 summers ago and they would fit right in..

Queens of the Stone Age.
DragonForce
Lynyrd Skynyrd (that would be FUCKIN' AWESOME!!!)
Towers of London
Skindred
MOTLEY CRUE!!! (my GOD that would be interesting!! Axl and Vince seein' each other again... what a showdown!!)
The Strokes (I'm personally not a fan, but apparantly they're huge Gn'R fans... I heard a rumor that they were gunna do a cover of NR!!)
Ani DiFranco (she fuckin' rocks!)
Elton John (that would fuckin' rock also!!)
Firewind
OpusBridge

etc etc etc....

NOT My Chemical Romance. NOT Bullet For My Valentine. NOT HIM. NOT Trivium. Not ANY vampire obsessed-blackdyedhaired-redeyeshadowwearing band with nasal vocals and three power chords played in the same order throughout every song. BLEH!

Once there was this rock n roll band rollin' on the streets. Time went by and it became a joke. They just needed more and more fulfilling,uh huh. Time went by, it all went up in smoke.....

White Stripes, Audioslave, Buckcherry, or my pick, Avenged Sevenfold. That would be a helluva rock show. Could also be a cool way to introduce Zaxh de la Roche's new project  hihi

Yes, they'd be good. GN'R always had good opening bands, but the other bands on the last 'tour' were pure crap.
CKY is a great band... and was for opening too... Wink

They sucked ass, they helped me donate money to the beer stand..

At ACC in Toronto I was out in the parking lot drinking while they played hihi

the idea of doing these festivals could be for axl to get amongst the current talent and suss it out to see who could open for them when they announce the tour, So any band appearing at the festivals could be a chance, For me though i say the foo fighters..... Dave grohl is a huge guns fan.

if you had LS or MS would there be much room for actuall gnr fans??

WHy are so many people picking huge established bands with followings that could sell ou these venues alone..?

I'm talking tours, like gnr and whoever on tour, two bands doing arenas and what not.. I am not speaking of festivals where the audience is supposed to be diverse. Wink

How about someone like Fiona Apple(not likely) or Michelle Branch(more likely). The arenas wouldn't be packed with too many non GNR fans, and both of these artists would put on a great show.

Billy Talent! Their debut album has the same raw energy and feel that Appetite For Destruction does. It's not quite as good as Appetite but it's close...
