I'll tell you one thing I hated both opening acts during 2002. He needs to team with someone semi known, but not big enough to steal the spotlight..

Strokes
jet

I wonder if he would use some of those emo groups that I hate,
yellowcard, hoobastank, new found glory, story of the year, coheed n cambria, etc?

I ask because CKY didn't fit anything, nor did mixmaster, just made me drink more

Metallica?  VR?  Weezer? Sum 41? You must be kidding?  Let's be realistic.... GnR is a legendary band and needs no introduction.... but if there had to be an opening act, it would have to be a group that doesn't conflict with GnR's style.... and seeing how Axl has done his best to branch off into a new sounding more industrial style of music, it would only be fitting that Nine Inch Nails would open up for GnR.

Exactly there is so many benefits for opening bands.

Longer shows with bad bands make people DRINK MORE hence the clubs make more.

Record Companies can use the spot to push a new upcoming band.

Gives you a full fealing, wouldnt you feel cheated after seeing the main band and they only play for 1 hour?

Oasis sold over 40 million albums worldwide. In UK, they even outsell the Beattles. American people can't understand how big Oasis is in Europe. Oasis totally dominated and ruled Europe in the mid and late 90's. Totally. They are wayyyyyyy too big to "open" for GN'R even if it would be my dream because they are my 2 favourite bands.

Oasis opened for Guns N' Roses at Rock in Rio 3. I can assure you they will never do that again. hihi

Whatever happened during RIR3 when Oasis opened for GNR?  I heard Axl make a comment about getting along with eachother unlike Oasis.  What did he meen by that?  A reply would be nice to have on this one.

Im not sure if I remeber correctly, but I think during a press conference before the show one of the Gallagher brothers said something that was like an attack agains Axl or GNR (I really don't remember what he said). So when Axl played all he said was "regardles of what you have heard or read people worked very hard, meaning my former friends, to do everything they could so that I could not be here today. I say fuck that. I am as hurted and disapointed as you that unlike OASIS we could not find a way to all get along. So Im going to introduce the new band..... " and that was it.

The Prodigy might be a good call.

Judas Priest would be unlikely but great.

Fuck Oasis.

Maybe its just me, but it appeared that CKY and DJ Honkytonk weren't well recieved by GNR fans (at MSG show) on 2002 tour.  I was just wondering who u guys think would be a respectable opening act for "next" tour?  I think it would be cool to hear a band like Helmet or Perfect Circle open.  just wondering what u would like to hear around the globe.

Yes, they'd be good. GN'R always had good opening bands, but the other bands on the last 'tour' were pure crap.

A lot of bands that have toured with gnr haven't been well received. For instants The Smashing Pumpkins, whom I like , but apparently I the minority.

I think they should look into a couple of unsigned bands.

First time I saw GN'R they had Blind Melon, Soul Asylm & The Cult supporting them.I think it would be cool it was something simlar. If CD hits big and when it comes out it will regardless of the nay sayers, GNR are still one of the biggest bands in the world. Any hoo back on topic...

actually I think GNR should be an opening act until they can prove they're really serious about the touring and fulfilling contractual obligations that they actually sign...this way, if the opening act doesn't show up, who cares Wink

Why do people have to be such douches about CKY? I think they are a pretty good band - not the best, but good enough to not deserve ridicule from people who can't accept something other than their precious old rock. It's one thing to say they aren't your cup of tea. It's another to say it sucks.

Anyway, I'm all for Jet. Jet fucking rules.
