Who do you like better Stern or Opie and Anthony. I have both Sirius and XM and I can really say that O and A are 100 times better, and before you post, NO they do not rip off Howard, they barely do the same humor....

O&A, by a mile.
Howard just does nothing for me, anymore. And, honestly, I despise the way he treated O&A and tried to cockblock their careers early on - just stupid.

Bah! A pox on thee!
In all sincerity, I used to really, really dig Stern. Then I found O&A and heard alot of the things they were saying about how Howie treated them and all that - especially how he was shortly before / after the 'sex for Sam' debacle. Once I began to actually get independent verification of some of those actions (as opposed to just hearing it out of O & A's mouths) I really began to feel that they got shafted, big time, by Howard. That's when I really became a true O&A fan. I still think Howard has his moments - but I just can't forgive anyone for treating someone that way. Its just not kosher, in my opinion.

you should've head Stern on the Sean Hannity show talking about what he did to O and A and how is only for free speech when it is his free speech, and the funny part of it all is that O and A rarely talked about him they were working for the same company in different day parts.
Stern is a fraud, he was cool in 1992 but after that, I mean how many stripper can you bring into the studio and on air ask them if they have had anal sex? It's not funny.
Besides it's radio i can't see the naked chick....
O-A rarely do naked chick stuff, and Jimmy Norton is a hell of a lot funnier than Arnie

I was a huge Stern fan - I mean huge. In fact, Id wager I know the show as well as anybody on here. I still think that he has a brilliant comedic mind. His natural talent is remarkable. There was a point where I couldnt imagine waking up and not listening to Stern. I just think hes lost his drive and has become genuinely megalomaniacal to the point where hes no longer listenable to me. Plus his show in general (the dynamics, characters, staff, etc.) has kind of degenerated into something I dont enjoy. Its a conclusion I came to before O&A came into my radar in the summer of 2001, but became much more apparent in the time after. My interest in the show waned until about 2003, when I just gave up on it.
Im actually at a similar point now with O&A. I still listen, but have been missing the CBS portion of the show without any regret. However, their XM show is still good enough to keep me listening. I think their XM-only year-plus was phenomenal. Ive said it before that their show attracted me because it had the spirit of Howards old show - similar energy, cleverness, fun. Howard hasnt had it since at least his divorce, probably before (
Private Parts
perhaps?) Ill give him this, he still does a good interview.
My favorite show now is Ron & Fez on XM. Its great on a lot of levels.

I happen to like both Stern & O&A. My biggest problem with Howard is how he treated O&A back when they were on terrestrial while giving them little to no recourse for retaliation. Hence that helps form my opinion of the guy. Howard's talented - I'll never deny that. O&A consistently make me laugh more. In addition, I MUCH prefer Jim Norton's humor to Artie Lange. Sorry - just my take on it.

dark,
I for one will not argue with you for as much as you have done for the GNR fans.
I listened to O&A for a small amount of time before they were taken off testicular radio a few years back and I thought there show was horrible. It never did anything for me, but better yet the stuff they were doing was stuff Howard already did. That is my opinion.
Overall I think Howard is 1000x smarter and more talented than they are. There is just so much more you get when you listen to Sirius on his channels. 24hrs a day it is there if you want it. Some of his other programming is priceless. I'm a huge stern fan I even belong to sternfannetwork. I do not agree with everything he does or says but overall it is the best choice out there for me. The crazy Alice and Riley martin bits he has done lately are priceless.? There are so many personalities on his channels people are bound to find a few that they really enjoy. I have to admit I listen to my Sirius unit 11hrs per day minimum. And about 8 of those are on Howard's channels. I think Sirius needs a all gnr channel like they have done with the stones and others in the past. Maybe when CD comes out they can do a channel of them all week like they did with David Gilmore the other month.
The bottom line is testicular radio is dying. And I think O&A will be short lived on there because senator brownback will be all over them once they screw up. The indecency stuff is going through they will be done. And to be honest they have failed on XM. They will never do for XM what Howard has done for Sirius.? Nascar is coming to Sirius and that has to be alone good for another 3 million subs in 2007.
I also think Howard is not done yet. He will sign more great talent to further nail the coffin in testicular, xm and last but not least A&O.
Satellite is the place to be not back on regular radio

- We can have a friendly discussion without arguing. its not like I'm gonna do something crazy like say "ok, everyone can have a copy of the DVD but.. THAT GUY".
A. Sirius doing an all GNR thing - XM's done that a couple of times now. They basically turn "Da' Boneyard" into an all GNR / GNR related channel (STP, VR, Cult.. but its like 90% GNR). Its pretty cool when they do it.
B. I actually have Sirius as well as XM and do listen to the Howard replays when I get a chance. I think he's still 'got it' when it comes to some things.. but I feel he's just lost alot of his snappiness / quick wit he used to have. My opinion, of course.
C. I kind of hated O&A when I first listened to them. It wasn't until I gave them a chance and began to realize that their humor - while definitely different than Howard's.. still worked for me. On a different level, mind you - O&A can be downright.. evil. I don't think I've ever heard Howard do anything is downright Sadistic as the Boston Mayor has died thing.
D. Terrestrial radio sucks - I agree with you. CBS signing O&A to that morning slot was, in my opinion, really stupid on their part. Its going to cause XM to sell alot more radios as poeple realize what they're missing by not getting the 'pre-dump feed' that XM offers.
E. I think you've overestimating NASCAR's draw of subs. NASCAR is one of those visual things.. almost more so than the NFL - although many won't admit it.. they watch NASCAR to see the wrecks when / if they happen.
F. I agree, Howard's nowhere near done. I personally don't really like Bubba all that much - but there's still alot of talent out there on Terrestrial he could draw away to Sat if he wanted to.

I think Kidd Chris will be the next one he gets unless CBS gives him so much money he can not resist. But I think 1 year max you will see Kidd Chris show on Sirius.
The nascar thing I think will draw a fair amount of people. I know you say it is a visual thing, but I for one would listen to it rather than watch it. On the weekends I do not have time to sit down. I'm always on the go that is why i like radio so much. Nascar is big. Bigger than I like but it is still big. People will buy Sirius subs for that I'm sure. Now Tony Stewart is having a weekly show on there also starting in January. We will see. I think the tides are turning faster than people thought. I like bubba , but not like howard they are different. I like the racing talk so that is why I really listen, No I'm not into nascar, drag racing is more my thing. I'm off to Atlanta this weekend to race. I'm going to miss all the GNR stuff while I'm out of town.

Like what? What are some bits theyve ripped off?

They did? When was this? I took the Boneyard out of my presets, too much pop metal. Ill say this about XM - they need a better channel for hard rock. GNR gets played on the Boneyard, meaning I never hear them because I dont listen to virtually anything else on that channel. Now theyve got the Big Hits channel or whatever, but thats Styx, Journey, Foreigner, etc.

No kidding...listen as recently as 1998 and his style of speaking is much different. Now he sort of grumbles slowly.

I too dislike O&A at first. Called them imitators, denied they were as funny as Howard until I realized I couldnt stop listening and found no real imitation at all. A similar show in general? Sure, but not aping in the least. And theyve done far worse things than the mayor prank, which actually seems innocent. Playing German speech audio over Robert Clearys story of Holocaust survival was one of few radio bits I genuinely found shocking. It broke me in for their interview with Linda Lovelaces sister after her death in a car crash in which they played porno audio. Playing "Guess A Number" with WAAF PD Dave Douglas' phone number was pretty bad too (though I dont think they followed through). Then theres the countless Ryan White, Conor Peterson, Adam Walsh, Katie Beers jokes...Have you heard
this segment

I dont know what it will do for the businesses involved, but its turned me off a bit to the show. Im hoping things get better, but Ive been tuning out lately, anxiously waiting for Ron & Fez.

I think the tides are turning faster than people thought.
XM, yesterday, issued a revised estimate for Year End '06 Subs. They went down from projecting 9 million subs by the end of '06, to 8.5 million subs by the end of '06. THEY cite a "general softness in the satellite market" for the revision. The analysts are saying different, however.
http://www.smartmoney.com/news/ON/index.cfm?story=ON-20060524-000934-1448
Sirius, so far, has stuck with their projection of 6.2 million subs.
http://www.smartmoney.com/news/ON/index.cfm?story=ON-20060524-001046-1800
So, it does look like the gap is continuing to narrow.
Oh, and it looks like Stern and CBS have settled their suit, which should be good news for everyone, including, possibly, Sirius' stock price.
