A hair's breadth!!

« Reply #20 on: May 16, 2006, 10:57:28 PM »

Ive never liked it? - I agree, it's plodding and aimless

Agreed, a UYI era B side. ?

An absolute momentum killer in a live setting.

It never hooked me in either. They should drop it from the live set.

For some reason though I see myself driving off a cliff with this song playing though Undecided

I agree with this as well.

It's Showtime!

i liked it better at Hammerstein then at anypoint in the 2002 tour.
It's heavier!!? drool and the solo Fortus does over/under the quotes was great.
for the most part the people next to me were quiet because it was new to them and i think that even though all the new songs had been performed/leaked, the people at the shows seemed to quiet down and listen to them as if they were brand spanking new. -thus reviews tend to say they killed momentum / weren't fan rocking - not the case, for fans it seemed they were more intrigued (wanted to actually take in and listen to the new songs more). -especially the people around me in the Mez 1 for the 12th and Mez 2 for the 14th.

-just my thoughts on the matter.

I consider this song a classic and it's not even on a album.

Madagascar is a great, great song - But unfortunately, it's the one new song that I don't think works at all in a live set.

I love how moody and downbeat it is, but it quite simply kills the momentum of a live show - It's obviously not a rocker, and it's not a ballad. It's really a very different experimental tune that will work fantastically on the record, but not so much with a large crowd of pumped up fans.

I didnt have a problem with it...

"Blues," on the other hand, was a let down.  The new intro doesnt work for me.

Madagascar took me a while to get into. Love it now.

However, I think the movie speech sampling is a bit archaic these days.

I really like it. I think using the same samples from 'Civil War' (among others) was a good idea, it's a pretty dark song, darker than civil war, so maybe it's an emphasis of that. And it's almost like it's a goodbye to the past, using that sample.

But i've not seen it live, so you know, maybe it is a momentum killer. But i think it'll work on the album.

It's sure to be on at least one of the three albums he plans to release.

Great song... but it needs to be perfect, if that makes sense.

Jimmy and Falcon, I agree 100%. Its the most overrated GNR song yet. repeats the same few lines over and over, and it just drags on and on. the lyrics should be redone, and then it might have potential. Also drop the MLK,civilwar, etc. bullshit. Anyone who thinks this is a masterpiece clearly has never heard a real masterpiece.

This song is in the filler category along with Riyadh,IRS, and Silkworms. If Madagascar ends up on an album that contains 13 tracks, then there definitely was not that many big guns in the vault.

i think its awesome, kind of pink floyd the wall or dark side of the moon type song, i cant definetly imagine it being on there.
i think it does have a slightly progressive influence, i love the quotes in it, and yeah i think the studio version will be great, although not as a single.

to be honest, loads of songs that are on albums that are not singles i end up prefering anyway, eg anything by led zep, they didn't release singles, mother by pink floyd, rocket queen by gnr.

 Cool

Love the MLK/Civil War speech. And I say it is a *real* masterpiece.

If you can make a comparison to Led Zep/ Floyd, that shows just how great the band is- those two bands are legendary, and achieved far more notoriety and classic status than GnR has, to date at least.

i agree 100%, i was actually going to add that to my last post but then decided not to for some reason. it sounds fucking retarded. and by the way, i got a hold of the 12/5 bootleg of madagascar and it sounded the same to me, except for a retard from the audience singing alot to it.

I love Madagascar, but it did seem like on Friday night at least that it was a bit shorter (or a little rushed) then the 02 tour, great song nonetheless>

I've never really cared for it live.

I want to hear the studio cut, then I'll have a real opinion.
