Oh my god-no pun intended, he is as good a soloist  as Finck, actually even better...are you kidding? Have you ever listened to Soundgarden? Huh  ps I do realize taste is subjective, but.... Grin

Um, I'm a huge Soundgarden fan. Early Soundgarden is amazing, but Thayil is hardly the caliber of guitar player one should think of when you're considering a guitarist for GnR. Thayil does the heavy Black Sabbath style of guitar rock great (the earlier heavy stuff that he wrote, not the later era soundgarden stuff that was primarly Chris Cornell and Ben Shepherd writing), he's just not the right guy for GnR.

PS: I always thought his solos were kind of scattershot and ham-fisted. They were great in the context of Soundgarden but not so much for GnR. I've been playing guitar a long time and I'm kind of picky about the guitar players I like.  ok I'd take a guy like Navarro (well...Jane's-era Navarro) over Thayil.

I would like to think that BH's replacement is a big name just cuz all the secrecy surrounding this....I know it's been pointed out numerous times already, but IMO the replacement is gonna be somone recognizeable that will set the crowd into a frenzy just by his or her appearance on stage.

Who fits that bill?

Vincent, you are right as well...still think Thayil is better than Finck but Thayil's style doesn't fit Gnr's. I'd take Navarro in a heartbeat. beer

Psychologically, you could consider this a reunion tour because I`ve managed to find enough pieces of my mind in order to be with you here tonight - - Axl Rose, Chicago 2002

Big name guitarists that are available?Huh?

Hmm..... Carlos Santana?   Yngwie Malmsteen?  Cheesy

I still think, regardless of what Axl says, you should at least give Slash returning as much of a chance as someone ridiculous like Eddie Van Halen.

Since we are filling out our fantasy rock star rosters, I'll say Jimmy Page.

That would get an immediate response from the crowd Shocked

As far as I know - Ace Frehley is available.

How come Brian May isn't on the list?  Don't you all think this is a distinct possibility too?

Brian May's a bit... old. And I think he's busy with Queen these days.

Uh..... so is Axl!   Seriously, it could be anybody.  But I do think it'll be someone that we all recognize.  Either way - I'm going to see AXL ROSE TOMORROW!

I'd rather it be a no-name undiscovered talent...that way we'll know the guy is in the band cause he's GOOD, not just because he's famous...

people put too much importance on the fame and not enough on quality...when you choose someone just because they're famous, you'll just end up picking someone who isn't right for the band - velvet revolver did it with scott weiland, and he ruined that band...

i'd rather the guy blow me away with this awesome playing than his fame...besides, if the guy is good, he'll become famous rather quickly just by being in gnr and creating quality music.

It's probably for another thread but I think Scott Weiland is perfect for VR.  They needed an enigmatic showman - and Weiland is that.

I agree marino ok In bluesrocker's opinon Weiland is a bad choice but there is no reason to bring VR into this convo...

but i said it's prolly somone famous cuz of alll the hype/secrecy its getting. I'd prefer a talent not a personality as well, but if the big surprise is "Joe Blow from the Douchebags" then everyone is gonna...."huh? WTF rant whos is this douchebag?"
