Does anyone know the exact date that rehearsals for the tour started? Cos it says that guy played a gig on the 30th of March, that sounds a bit too close to me. If he really was in GnR my guess would be that he'd be rehearsing with the band by then. Sorry man I don't buy this.

If izzy was onstage with axl even for a song or two wouldn't that be fucking weird for the current players.?? I mena the crowd goes nuts for the original rythm guitar player who helped make gnr huge and these guys are now in it riding coat tails from the past until their material is released..

Dude, dont take this so seriously. Guys like Robin and Fortus are adults, this is a job to them (which I am sure they enjoy as well) and are getting paid big bucks.

Most of us on these boards care more about GNR than the actual players.....

you couldn't be further from the truth man. The guys in the band are in the band because of the music.

Thats some pretty convincing detective work. ?If it is a prank or ploy, they sure did their research, knowing the band was currently rehearsing in NY, not LA. ? I'm almost inclined to believe it...

I had a theory that Brian Kehoe was the guy because he worked with Cirque du Soliel like Robin and worked with Les Claypool like Brain, this giving him an "in". ? But if an unknown guitarist is being congratulated by friends and they keep mentioning NY...

hmmmm

Well it doesn't take THAT much detective work... and if they're using an unknown guitarist, why all the secrecy?? Who cares?

If they got a known guitarist like Satriani or somebody then Axl would wanna advertise that to get everbodys hopes up, But an unknown guitarist everyone will talk bad abut no matter what because we would only hear that person in the band he is from like Shaker. But if we wait and dont hear the guitar till he's playing GNR songs we will prob be blown away and think he's awsome right away

So I think its an unknown guy and not someone big

Remember...they WERE rehersing in LA.

Axl said so in his interview.

"they were out in LA, but now they're in NY"

something like that.

Good point as well. At this point, I'm putting the guitarist worry out of my mind and getting prepped for the 12 hour trek to NYC.

Something interesting I just read (not sure if it's been mentioned here):

rainx over at thenewguns.com emailed Richard Fortus and he said HE was the one shredding the solo on Nightrain.

http://www.thenewguns.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=718&sid=0631d12f3642c42afdc39bd8d70b74ea

And apparently rainx sent a copy of that email off to jarmo for verificiation on sunday.

I guess this was posted here before, pilferk. That's why a lot of people are considering to be just a rhythm guitar, not a shredder.

Don't you think it has to be someone we've heard of if he's keeping it a 'secret'? ?He's not just not telling us by avoiding a press release - he's teasing us as he did on Eddie Trunk by saying "It's not someone from the past but I'm not telling you who it is".

I'm thinking it's a "name" guy like Dave Navarro or someone. ?If it was Dave Navarro or Kim Thayil or someone like that and he announced it - then that guy joining the band would overshadow the return of GNR, wouldn't it?

Axl has always been savvy with the "surprises". ?Think about this......

1) ?He carefully orchestrated the ticket sales to get the people on these boards to the shows.
2) ?Then when he saw that the password was leaked and about 500 tickets ended up on EBay - he cleverly added two shows BEFORE the other two. ?He wants us diehards to be at the FIRST show. ?OBVIOUSLY.
3) ?This pretty much guarantees him a GREAT crowd.
4) ?I think he knows that if he shows up at NYC with Izzy and Dave Navarro (or even Slash or Buckethead) that the media will go nuts reporting on GNR. ?Through those reports, they'll also talk about how great the show was.

This is the way to make a comeback. ?If the guitarist is Joe Schmo - then there could be a "letdown" factor.

I think it's definitely someone we all know.

Cool!

I completely missed it...

Given the chaos that occured this weekend after "The Interview"...I'm not surprised I did.

Hey!  Look everyone - it's Nigel Tufnel!

Crowd:   Huh

This is why it must be someone that people recognize by name AND face.

I still think there's a possibity that it's Wes Borland. Dunno about his playing abilities other then solid rhythm. The middle part of Better ( the guitar sound of it) where Axl goes all screaming reminds me a bit of the former Limp Bizkit guitarists sound.

Your prayers have been answered, Dave's way too busy with The Panic Channel's new release/summer tour and Rock Star Supernova to join a band he's already turned down offer(s) to join.

I don't think the surprise necessarily be a big-name. Axl was just not announcing the new guitarist there. Like marino said, if he did, we'd have dug into him/her. Maybe He just prefers keeping things back till the last moment.
