we'veall bitched and complained petitioned etc etc

but i honestly think now the greatest hits although a shit tracklisting this  was an excellent idea

axl has confidence problems, this proves that guns n roses are still a major name, debuting at number 3 is amazing
i have so many friends buying this cd, a girl i know even stole her moms credit card to order it off tv

the time is now for chinese democracy, gnr sold 108,000 with no new songs, videos etc etc

imagine a great single, video etc etc, c.d. would sell a shitload of copies!

so does everyone agree now that this debut may boost axls confidence enough to show him that now is the time to release cd?

or do u think it was still a bad idea

Fucking cool.  smoking

I wonder where that prediction about GNR/NERD sales being similar came from. 108,000 and 56,000 are pretty far apart.

Also, is it to do with the different state of UK and US album sales in general that explains why more copies are sold in a far smaller country?

The stats only confirm 43 % of return in right now.......concievably this may go past 200,00 when all tallies are counted.

"Greatest HitsGuns N' Roses-album of the week
I'm downloaded this album from internet, and i can say:if you like gnr, great stuff for yours. If you don't like gnr and know who they are,you will change you attitude. And if you don't like gnr and don't know who they are you will be new fan of the great band"

Since Sympathy For the Devil was not released on a previous GnR album, couldn't the record company when they compiled the songs just have easily put OMG on the cd instead of sympathy  ?

Technically yes, but 'Oh My God' wasn't recorded by that Guns N' Roses and Interscope knew that there'd be a huge backlash...

I don't know.... perhaps because it is from a different era.
but, in any event it would have been a better choice IMO.
There's already 3 other cover songs on GH
and OMG is kick ass.   ok

"Oh My God" would have ruined the GH album. It would have been the "My World" of UYI 2. No need such a mediocre song on a GN'R album.
The GH is fine the way it is. Maybe later we will have a "best of" with more songs.

Well you are right man, Wy World doesnt go with the UYI 2 album, but certainly Oh my god, will perfectly fit, in Chinese Democracy, anyway man, Oh my God, is strong song, really cool if you allow me to say, but the only problem is that weird mix of electronic sounds that suck and ruin the song, the lyrics arent that deep for me, but leads you to great feelings...

IMO as a whole the greatest hits is a "shit" album. I'll tell you why I think that.

Firstly it wasn't approved by anyone from the band, from any era, in fact Duff, Slash and Axl actually banded together to stop it's release!!! that is crazy IMHO for those 3 to agree on something in this day and age. rant

Second, all the selection of tracks is the singles they released (excepting 'estranged' prolly cuz of the length of the song, 'It's so easy' prolly cuz of "Why don't you just Fuck Off!!" and 'Nightrain' prolly cuz it's about getting trashed). Not necessarily the "greatest" musical acheivements by the band. rant (BTW that's why OMG isn't on there, cuz it was never a single)

Thirdly, over 1/3 of the tracks weren't even written by the band. I mean how weird is that? rant

Fourth, It would've been nice to have all 5 orig guys contribute some kinda liner notes or feelings on songs IMO, or a picture booklet (abbreviated picture history or something), or at the very least lyrics, but it's just a folded piece of cardboard with 1 picture. (hell they even use the musicians real names don't they? (Saul Hudson, William Bailey, Michael McKagan, Jeffery Isabel?) What the fuck is that? honestly rant

Fifth, it would've been nice to get a b-side or unreleased track or 2 (Crash Diet or Shadow of Your Love or Ain't Goin Down)

The first of my reasons was enough for me to stay clear of it.

I strongly disagree..I would have prefered OMG over Sympathy because that was a shit song to me personally, but I wouldn't be surprised if neither Slash or Axl wanted that song on there either...

My scenario would have OMG as a bonus track..last song (we'll say sympathy) ends, you go to hit the eject or repeat button and all of the sudden that trippy fucking intro hits. The song is so great but wasnt on the radio long enough for the record buying public to really acquire the listenability towards it, however If you take into consideration, the demographic for who purchased GH, and add OMG= instant and great exposure for Axl and the new band.

I am just curious because, that is probably what we can expect for CD when it finally comes out. Does anyone have a link or idea how many it  has sold thus far? Is it like 6-8 or 8-10m?

« Reply #398 on: October 13, 2005, 12:21:14 PM »

honestly the sales wont indicate what we can expect for CD.

What if the single is a dud?

CD will do well out of the boxc but it wont do as well as the GH. Not until CD proves itself with a single or 2.

by the way i don`t think you can conclude to the sales that CD might will have....
