Now that the release has been made official by Geffen, I'm starting to wonder why Geffen didn't put anything unreleased on it (like they did with the Nirvana one)?

I'm sure they could've found something unreleased to put on it. Even a cover, for example Heartbreak Hotel from their demo tape. Part of it was played on the Making Fucking Videos Part I home video.

Or is it just about Geffen being able to do whatever they want with the tracks already out there? A compilation of the Use Your Illusion tracks were released a few years ago and now this. None of them had any unreleased material on them.

I think its all about Geffen milking the cash cow. But hopefully it might get people at least interested in the GNR name. They should have at least maybe put a cover of a song from the new line up on there like SCOM or Jungle as a bonus track, since they are Guns N' Roses now.

So are the songs going to remastered at least?

AA

Yes, the tracks are remastered. They DEFINITELY sound more fuller, especially the APPETITE tracks. You will truly appreciate the production and performances a lot more.

By the way, they did remaster all of the albums, not just the these 14 tracks so expect those to be released at the end of the year.

how do you know this?

he's bullshitting..he has mouthed here since he came to this board with no proves.

Wouldn't it have been funny if the unreleased bonus track had been that rumored Lionel Richie/Gnr song from a while ago  hihi

Jarmo, from all the unreleased bootlegs I have heard, I honestly don't think there are any completed tracks/outtakes worthy of release. The Illusions cleaned the closet- I believe. Good riddance. Now can we please move on to some Chinese Stew? beer

You know what sucks?

Read other online msg boards concerning the GNR GHits...

Most people are making fun of the band saying they are washed up and only good to release old stuff instead of new.

Yeah - GH got people talking about GNR alright... in the worst possible way!

It will sell poorly and this will make an even worse impression of the band!  rant

I'm not sure "funny" is the word I'd use.  Perhaps "disturbing beyond all belief and heralding the coming of the Apocalypse" would be more appropriate.  hihi

Hah! All things considered , if there ever was a Lionel/Axl duet it would make perfect sence to do "hello , is it me you're looking for?" since we are all waiting on and looking for Axl.

I would have been nice to have included an unreleased track or even "Oh My God", but as I mentioned in another thread, I think this GH "package" was sorted out years ago before the GN'R releases of 1999.

Crash diet would make a good unreleased track in my opinion. A lot of non-hardcore fans have never heard it.

Crash Diet, Shadow Of Your Love + all the songs that are missing - It's So Easy, Nightrain, Reckless Life, Estranged.
I like the fact that Sympathy For The Devil is on there, although I have the single some people may not + it's way better than the original, as much as people hate Fat Sorum, I think he's a wicked drummer & it shows on this track.

1. It will be on record stores' playing lists (Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Amoeba, etc.). They will play the cd 2-3 times a day for the next several months (as many times as they play Britney Spears' In The Zone and Michael Jackson's #1s).

2. The cd WILL attract new/young fans.

3. Will set up the release of CHINESE DEMOCRACY

i dont know why you all guys says it so fucking bad with a GH album.... yeah, it isnt chinese democracy, but would you rather have nothing?!?

edit: ohyeah, thatt third thing you said, smart! it will make new fans get to know GNR, the old, but so far the best GNR in the studio to date, so why not let the non-fans get blessed by GNR's sweet music once again, before changing history with CD!  Tongue

If it is as you say, then why would Axl be against the release of GH?
GH can be seen as a good thing for the reasons you mention.  Is he totally against giving any credit to the ex-GNR members?

And if he supports the release, then why are there so many freakin covers, and no bonus materials?

If I were a new fan and liked GH, and then I saw Chinese Democracy and the new lineup, I would be very confused as to what happened to GNR... IMO

No matter what boardmembers say--the casual music fan, which buys most new releases, will have to become reaquainted with the the music of Guns N' Roses in order for CHINESE DEMOCRACY to become a "huge" success.

Most only remember "November Rain," "Sweet Child O' Mine," and "Paradise City." GREATEST HITS will be a big reminder to these casual fans and CHINESE DEMOCRACY will be the greatest gift to die-hards.

In a few months, when they begin hyping the shows in Europe and CHINESE DEMOCRACY is about to drop, these casual fans, along with the die-hards will (!!!) pick up a copy of CHINESE DEMOCRACY.

To tell you the truth...I do not believe Axl is against the release of GREATEST HITS (confict creates great publicity). The story has been printed/posted everywhere. He knows that the G N'R name on ads in magazines, newspapers, on gigantic billboards in front of major record stores, etc. will be great for his new album.

The ads will be down by the end of April. Their European tour begins a month later, CHINESE DEMOCRACY will be released soonafter. The timing will be great.  yes peace yes

As of right now, GH is off of Amazon.com

hmv.ca doesn't list a release date for it.

http://www.cheap-cds.com/surf/disps/439130 Shows the current release date as 12/31/04

fye & cduniverse still currently show it for 3/23/04

With all that being said, though - Amazon NOT having it listed anymore could (and I stress could) be indicative of serious activity behind the scenes.  I was told a while ago that GH's release date should be used as the barometer for the possibility of 'official info' coming soon thereafter.  To specifically watch for the date to either get pushed back, or, just disappear altogether.

One thing whacked about this: The Press Release came out on the 19th - and its still out there on Yahoo - so I really do wonder just what the hell is going on.
