Metallia have been playing some great setlists on their Sick Of The Studio tour, but I thought they'd be debuting some new songs live?

There's been all this talk about Rick Rubin trying to get them in the same mindset as when they recorded Master Of Puppets, so I guess they want to keep a lid on the new stuff until the album comes out, to keep the mystery about it.

Didn't they whip out New Song and Other New Song on this latest studio escapade tour?

Yeah, but apparently those songs have either been scrapped or re-worked into other songs, going by what Rob said in a recent interview.

That sounds right.  I read that the New Song from last year has been taken apart and they're using bits and pieces of it in other songs.

I listened to all the albums from Kill 'Em All to the self-titled album last night.

God, I love Metallica.

I am so looking forward to the new album, I have a good feeling about it.

Yeah, when you listen to those first 5 albums and know what they're capable of, you can only hope we get an album like that once again.
Which is not to dismiss the albums that followed, because there's some great stuff on there. But those first 5, man, there was awesome stuff on there.

When I hear Kirk describing their new album as a bridge between And Justice For All and The Black album, that gets me excited too!

After St. Anger, it's hard for me to get excited about that kind of hype... But we'll see. This way I can only be pleasantly surprised Tongue

I don't think they're capable of making another album as bad as St. Anger. Theres too much talent there. But I do agree, there was a lot of hype with that one too so I am going to keep my expectations low and hopefully be blown away.

This was posted on the front page of Metallica.com

A Message from James Hetfield

In the last few weeks there have been a lot of rumors flying around saying that I was detained by airport security in London while on tour in Europe. I'm here to tell you that it never happened . . . pure fabrication! The story is simply that there is no story . . . it's scary how gullible and easily fooled the press is!
With that said, we had a blast out there on the "Sick of the Studio" tour and big thanks to everyone who came out to the shows and to the crew who made it happen. Now back to the studio . . .

Yeah I really think this will be as good as MOP and AJFA as in heavy. Its gunna kick some major arse.
I also recon after the new album is done, we will see the old Metallica up on stage. I mean, James' funny little G-ups, and lars throwin in Fills Left, right and centre. That sort of thing.
Cant wait.

It's funny, while I've been a vocal hater of St. Anger since its fateful release and have pretty much written off Metallica since, I really really really want them to pull through and make this great.

It's been long enough, and the vibe with this album is good enough, that I'm pretty damn excited for this. I plugged in the S&M symphony concerts last night and rekindled some love n' respect for the band, so here's hoping.

I love alot of S&M but the tracklisting always annoyed me. They passed over some obvious choices that woulda sounded amazing with the symphony in order to push more load and reload stuff.

« Reply #1515 on: August 26, 2007, 12:59:08 PM »

busted out St. Anger for the first time in a while recently, still cant get through it.

Sweet Amber is awesome tho. everything else i still dont like that much.

i agree with what someone said about them being too talented to make a nother sub-par album. so we'll see.

i heard that their new record was pushed back till next year tho. sucks, but i'd rather them take their time.

Metallica's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"Does two acoustic gigs in our hometown mean that we're sick of the studio again? Nah . . . not really . . . but we are honored that we have been invited to appear at the annual Bridge School Benefit concerts. Held on October 27 and 28, 2007 at Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, CA, this will be our second time participating in the all acoustic shows, and the 21st year that the benefit has been held in the Bay Area.

"As usual, the line-up is stellar and we're looking forward to seeing Tom Waits, Eddie Vedder (with Flea and Jack Irons), John Mayer, of course Neil Young, and others perform those days. Tickets are on sale this Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 10:00 AM and for more details, please see the official press release below. Met Club members should check www.metclub.com for Clubber pre-sale information.

"Started by Neil and Peggy Young, the Bridge School is a non-profit organization assisting individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities and is an internationally recognized leader in the education of children who use augmentative and alternative communication. The annual benefit concerts provide the majority of the funding for the school's operation. For more information, check out www.bridgeschool.org."
