"Welcome to the beginning and the end of the 2005 Metallica World Tour..." Nothing like a little Ulrich humor to end another great evening here in San Francisco. First and foremost, the crowd was like night and day compared to the Sunday night show and you could definitely tell there were many more Metallica fans in attendance which seemed to have fueled a completely different setlist. Opening again with Orion, the first surprise came when the band tore into Creeping Death with the crowd, as always, screaming DIE as loud as they possibly could. Wherever I May Roam followed which got the crowd singing again. Another quick band intro came up next before a familiar kick drum got the fists pumping in the air. Rob gave us a short little bass doodle before the band gave us an energetic performance of For Whom the Bell Tolls. Kirk followed with a short guitar solo as an acoustic guitar stand was set up on stage for yet another different song. James gave a soulful performance of The Unforgiven which, again, had many in the crowd singing loudly. "Gimme an M... Gimme an E... Gimme a T..." You guessed it... Fuel followed at the same frantic pace that it's been performed at for the past couple years. So, up to this point, every single song had been different from Sunday night, barring Orion. We than moved into familiar territory with great renditions of Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters, Master of Puppets, One, and, of course Enter Sandman. Sandman once again got the crowd on their feet, air guitars ripping, fists and horns in the air, and voices trailing off into the night sky. As I said on Sunday, it was great to see the band back on stage once again to show everybody what they've got. They most definitely left an impression, one way or another, on the Stones crowd and, most importantly, gave the rabid fans that traveled from places such as Norway, Calgary, and Chicago that fix that we've all been craving.

Yeah, pretty cool setlist, it looks like something from the Black album tour except for Fuel of course.

What would everyone's ideal set list be?

Unsurprisingly mine includes nothing from their post '91 travesty's - hell they'd be getting bottles aimed at them if they tried to fob me off with 'King nothing'....

1 - Hit the lights
2 - Holier Than Thou
3 - Sad But True
4 - Four horsemen
5 - Fade to black
6 - I disappear
7 - For whom the bell tolls
8 - Trapped under ice
9 - Nothing Else Matters
10 - Wherever I May Roam

11 - Battery
12 - Master Of Puppets
13 - The Thing That Should Not Be
14 - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
15 - Disposable Heroes
16 - Leper Messiah
17 - Orion
18 - Damage Inc.

First encore
19 - One

Second encore
20 - Enter Sandman

The entire Master of Puppets album performed - would be worth the inevitable ?50 tickets

A huge chunk of Black, just the 'One' track from AJFA, though i'm sure those songs with a bass line rock ultra hard and live must be awesome

Could only squeeze a few tracks from Kill 'em all - after all those 20 songs are probably 3 hrs worth at least

Just the one post '91 track with 'I disappear'

Whats a floor ticket worth to a Metallica gig in your area? In Australia I paid $130 for a pit ticket, and BDO was $103.

I found tickets for Metallica quite expensive last time they toured here. When I saw them in 1998 I paid $50 for floor tickets and in 6 years the price was doubled, almost tripled if you consider the $130 ticket I paid for floor tickets at the same venue.

That was the gig where Metallica was fined for being to loud.

I actually thought their performance was better in 1998 too. They played allot more Load/Relaod/Black album songs, but I couldn't fault their performance, they were so tight and like you said, so damn loud!

In 2004 they played more old stuff but they were sloppy on some songs, they completely stuffed the ending of Seek & Destroy too, and they've only played the song like 10,000 times... hehehe
