As for best riff, I love the Ride The Lightning riff.
Another Dave Mustaine song?
Yes, another co-written Dave Mustaine song, what's your point?

i think they are better live now? with robert then they ever were. Please note im only commenting on things after cliff, i have yet to get any live footage with him.
Robert Trujillo is an excellent bassist, but he's not fit to be mentioned in the same sentence as Cliff Burton.

All of Metallica's bassists have been great, Cliff, Jason and Rob. I really look forward to seeing what Rob contributes to the next Metallica album.

get over it fuckhead!
And if you read my post again, and look through the spelling errors, you should see that i was talking about the last album, not everything they have done and certanly not live where they actually play all the great old songs.
metallica was pretty damn good in roskilde two years ago so i agree that they "rule" live, but only and i mean only because og their old songs.

And if you read the posts from the last few pages, you'll see that comments like "Metallica are a fucking joke" are boring and don't add much to discussion, so why post things like that?
If you knew the facts, you'd know that Metallica collectively agreed to no solos on St. Anger, as that wasn't the point they trying to put across by releasing it. They wanted to step away from the polished-commercial production of the last few albums and also step away from self-indulgent things like soloing etc.
St. Anger is a big "fuck-you" punk metal album, the sound of a band trying to refind themselves after nearly splitting up. Some people like it, some people don't, simple as that.

sure i haven't read all the posts, but anyway, i feel that i have something to say.... and of course, metallica is not a fuckin' joke really, they are legendary, no matter what anyone here might say...
My point is that, after whatching that "monster" film, it's so obvious that kirk wants to have solos on the record, but he caves in because he doesn't have the balls to say that "if i can't put solos on the songs, i won't play on the album at all". It's a huge disrespect to his talent and character to not alow him to put his solos on the songs, and the hilarious part is that he eventually agrees to do so without a fight aka metallica has become a joke in my opinion, it's all contract working, no passion and no real taste. Kisk is one of the most skilled heavy guitarists fucking alive and all his fans wants to hear solos. how sad would it be to have a gn'r record without guitar solos or a VR record.

Kirk is competant, no more than that. There are many better guitarists out there. Metallica could be called thrash pioneers, but I don't know if they kept up their momentum long enough to be considered legends. They weren't truly influential either, like Metal Church or Overkill. They were once a good thrash band, not great, but good. I don't see how the whole thing is blown so out of proportion.
Cliff Burton was a very talented songwriter and he had a great knowledge of musical theory, but his bass skills weren't really that great. None of the Metallica members was really outstanding, but together, they made a good band.

James Hetfield is known as one of the best rhythm metal guitarists ever, even Dimebag Darrell held him in high regard.
Although that opinion has probably changed because of Metallica's change in musical directions.

How would it effect Metallica's future if Kirk Hammett left the band ? Would they keep moving on or break up? Last year on a Headbanger's Ball episosde , Metallica were the guest talking about their new movie but Kirk was like refusing to pay attention to the band , he seemed like he didn't want to talk at all . I was surprised he's always a talkative person on tv.

He should just quit and form a new band - everyone follows Metallica for him anyway. I'm sure he could put together a kickass line up, and as everyone out there has been involved with GNR at one point we'd have a really intresting cross over

Kirk leaving Metallica wouldn't be a huge blow to the band, he is usually sloppy live and it seems that he uses his Wah Wah pedal on almost all of the songs live which in some cases spoils them.

Really? I think it would destroy Metallica. The one thing I thought was lacking on their most recent album was solos by Kirk.
