Who cares if it fits in with their previous style?? What you're asking an artist to do is to restrict their creativity.? If Metallica wants to write a country ballad or a bluesy lament, why should we stop them?? Just because you want them to work within a thrash metal format, it doesn't mean they should do that.? Music is completely subjective, and when you hear a song like "Mama Said" and think, "My god, that is the worst Metallica song ever", somebody who's into softer music and never liked Metallica might hear it and go, "Wow, is that METALLICA?? That song is better than any of that crap they've done before!"? One man's garbage is another man's treasure.? I personally think that
Load
is the most underrated album ever.
Finally someone who understands what I'm getting at. If Metallica want to explore different styles musically, why can't they?
I love the fast thrashy stuff, and I love the melodic introspective stuff. It's all great!

If u honestly believe Load and Reload are as good as Master of Puppets etc then u have a very low opinion on 80's Metallica. Maybe u just don't like thrash metal?
Or maybe you listen to a wide range of music and can actually like BOTH thrash metal and melodic heavy rock perhaps?
Wow, there's a foreign concept...
Haha, funny man.
Believe what u will, but St Anger is awful, maybe music is opinion but some opinions are less 'sound' than others. If u like St Anger just imagine how much u'd like an album with decent production, made by dedicated musicians, with solo's and clever lyrics!

Jealousy. Axl doesn't have St Anger, Load and Reload around his neck.

Anyone seen the clip of Hetfield [possibly back stage] talking about the failed GN?R/Metallica failed joint tour thing.
Hetfield: ?he [Axl] has to have his food chopped up into little pieces, probably so he can get them down his scrawny little neck?.
I laughed at that.

Yep. It was funny! And he also says "yer gunna die" in that same segment I believe? Pretty funny , great great movie!
I think had metallica broken up and Axl needed a drummer he and lars coulda made a great team.
*ducks for cover*?
lars in gn'r? that's disgusting!
i'm a fan of load as well, my 2nd fav metallica album, after master.

bah u guys suck.
james is entitled to his own opinion. besides he met Axl many times. you guys didn't, and it's just an opinion.
and i didn't think that offensive in any way.
Metallica's Dvd Rocks. and i can only wish Gn'r continued to sell out stadiums world wide and give us great music. load and reload are great hard rock albums, they experimented and in my opinion they did good. St anger was another story. but after 20 years as a band they don't really need an excuse to experiment with their sound as long as they keep on delievering the best live shows ever.
Metallica fans seem to be much more happy than we are. so the must be doing something right

for a lot of metallica fans their last good album was the black one. and i think that too. st. anger was an experiment, ok, but a failed one.

imo LOAD is the most underrated album ever. It is sick and i don't get why most people don't like it
on a side note as much as i love gnr and axl there is no possibility that james hetfield is jealous of axl rose. when u are the frontman of the most successful and influential band of the last 20 years (that is metallica) i think you are not jealous of any other musician

I completely agree. As a drummer myself, Lars is one of my all time favs and he certainly has a "thing" for Axl. Listen to old interviews and he mentions Axl quite a bit in a very positive light. Would be an interesting combo IMO.

for a lot of metallica fans their last good album was the black one. and i think that too. st. anger was an experiment, ok, but a failed one.
i happen to know people who actually liked it. and the record did sell a lot.
but who cares, if u see the SKOM movie it only shows how they couldn't possibly do any other record. cuz St anger represented where the band was at the time both musicly and mentaly. they were only true to themselfs, and even tho i don't really care much for the record, i think they did the right thing. wich is to play what is real, and not copy paste something that worked in the past just to please other people.
music is about what u feel. some people relate to it, some don't, but in the end u only have to be true to yourself. and they were, that's why i respect st anger as a cd, james put a lot of effort into it, and so did the band.
the same reason i respect Axl, cuz i actually believe he's goin to put out a record that shows him as person and not to please the average AFD or greatest hits fan, cuz that would've been easy and prob would've been done a long time ago.
music should be about taking chances and not living inside a safe box.

Im a drummer too, Brain is one of my all time favs so Im quite happy the way it is!
Lars is a pretty good drummer, wouldn't want his sound in GN'R though.

MeanBone, I fall in with your view of music.
I don't really see there's superior and inferior in music. music reflects one's heart. When someone feels it, their heart reflects it.

Load is a pretty good album
, even thought I do like thrash metal as well.
At the end of the day, barely anyone will be 100% satisfied with any band. For example, Slayer. I really like them but there will be someone who doesn't like them because of King's wierd 'soloing', although the band has been similar with their music for 2 decades, which not many other bands have done e.g. Metallica and Megadeth (St. Anger and Risk).
Just listen to what you want (as long as it isn't blatant crap like McFly.
There, I couldn't have said it any better...
