METALLICA played a special rehearsal show to about 1,200 family, friends, contest winners and members of the band's official fan club Friday night (October 17) at the Cow Palace just outside San Francisco, California. According to photographer Alan Ralph, who attended the concert, it was a "great show (of course!), in the round, complete with fire, a bit of pyro, laser light show (entire first song, then during some of 'Master Of Puppets'), eight huge lighting rigs shaped as coffins, and a setlist that went from 'Harvester Of Sorrow' to five 'Death Magnetic' tracks to 'Fight Fire With Fire', 'Master Of Puppets', and 'Seek And Destroy'! Unfortunately, they didn't play 'Creeping Death', they played three slower songs, and they played a 'St. Anger' song, 'Frantic'. The stage itself was very basic ? eight mics, one placed every 10 feet, drumset in the middle (on a rotating spinner, which spun 1/4 turn every few songs to make a complete loop by the end of the show), two sets of 4-5 amps, not stacked, kept low to the stage so people could see over them; in between the sets was a fire rig (picture attached as well)."
The group's setlist was as follows:
01. That Was Just Your Life
02. The End Of The Line
03. Harvester Of Sorrow
04. Wherever I May Roam
05. One
06. Broken, Beat And Scarred
07. Cyanide
08. Frantic
09. Until It Sleeps
10. The Four Horsemen
11. The Day That Never Comes
12. Master Of Puppets
13. Fight Fire With Fire
14. Nothing Else Matters
15. Enter Sandman
- - - - - - - -
16. Last Caress
17. Blitzkrieg
18. Seek And Destroy
That is an awesome setlist. Just wish James had his Late 80's early 90's voice back.
Reminds me of 2002... Bring back the Rasp. LOL

I'm really not a fan of the round setup.
When I run to the stage when the doors open, how will I know where the front is?

I'd love to see the round set up. I've only seen them twice. It was in the same week so the stage never changed. but I would like to see th e"round" set up. Just for something different.
Every side would be the front, Wouldn't it?

Yeah, but the overall "front."
Where it's the front during the start and at the end of the show.
Lars' thingamabobber is going to do a full 360 right?
Didn't they go In The Round for the Black Album tour? (Except during the time they co-headlined with Guns)

I've been listening to the "Black Album" and I think Death Magnetic is a much better album.
Nothing Else Matters is awesome but I've never been a huge fan of Sad But True, Enter Sandman, and the other hits on there.
I think Death Magnetic from song 1-10 is the best Metallica album ever.
DM may not have a song as great as the legendary songs on each record. but as a whole, I think its a better overall album.

Lars kinda implied that an Australian tour would be in 2009 after Europe, so I reckon it'll be later that year.
