The album is READY NOW but we have to wait till Sept 12th? WHY? if the stores already have it, why not let them sell it?

I guess the record companies try to time the release date right.... You know, to get it to #1 on the charts....

If there's other big albums coming on a certain day, somebody might push their release back or release it earlier.

And then there's promotion. They probably want a few weeks to let everyone know it's coming out.

Album leak welcomed by Metallica

The drummer of rock band Metallica has welcomed an internet leak of their new album, ahead of its release next week.

Speaking on San Francisco radio station Live 105, Lars Ulrich said: "If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days."

"It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days," the musician added.

Death Magnetic, officially released around the world on 12 September, was posted on the internet after reportedly being sold in a French shop.

Legal action

The band, who were honoured at the Kerrang! awards in London last month, made one of the album's tracks, Cyanide, available for download recently.

They have also announced details of an intimate gig due to take place in London on 14 September.

Ulrich appeared on the US radio station to give a sneak preview of the album.

In 2003, Metallica decided to allow fans to download their music via the internet, three years after taking legal action to prevent digital access to their material.

The band chose to make their entire back catalogue available for download in 2006 - after finally relenting on a refusal to allow their music to be carried by iTunes.

They are due to play London's O2 Arena on 15 September, and will subsequently embark on an extensive North American tour, ending in January.

How ironic.... The band that went after Napster.

It's not ironic. He's just become a hack.

Another phony and gutless attempt to cash in. Please...we knew what kinda guy you were back with Napster. Can smell that oily haired suit offering business advice a mile away.

Put the inc. on and be done with it.

Kanye West actually though had it right last year. He said "I'd rather debut number 2 against great competition than number 1 against nobody.

Are you referring to The Day That Never Comes?

I agree it sounds a bit like Unforgiven 2 in the first half, but it goes completely old school in the second half and sounds nothing like Load.

I've previewed 4 other songs from the album, and I'm waiting to listen to the 5 others when the album is officially released, but I love what I've heard so far.

Album of the year BY FAR WOW

That's a pretty big call.

I've only heard half the album and I'm holding out to hear the rest in CD quality when the album is officially released, but what I have heard is pretty kickass.

I don't know about that.  I haven't really heard much in 2008 but I'd be surprised if I didn't hear one or two better metal albums at least.

From what I've heard so far it's decent and the best thing since the black album, but that's not saying much.  I still don't like James' singing style, Kirk's solos (they work with the music but he's so limited) or the guitar tone.

Death Magnetic is ok....I've listened to the whole thing a few times now. ALbum of the year is a very strong thing to say and I would have to heartily disagree. For instance the Motorhead album that just came out a couple weeks ago is so much better than Death Magnetic not to mention theres a new ACDC album and Buckcherry album on the way in the next couple months. Pennywise released their best album in years earlier this year as well.
