Their was probale a strong to good album in both Load and Reload . The really shouldn't have released both . just took the best of each and made one album.

Hero Of the Day
Bleeding me
Fuel
until it sleeps
King Ain't my Bitch
Memory Remains
UnForgiven 2
Mama Said.

And one or two more ...

Outlaw Torn, Ain't My Bitch, Devils Dance, Better Than you, Carpe Diem Baby, Bad Seed, Where the wild Things Are, Prince Charming, & Attitude are really great songs too.  i dont get whats up with the hate for these 2 albums, i think they are really great and don't pale at all in comparison to their early stuff.  i am not saying it is better than their early music but if metallica or any band released an album as good as these 2 today i doubt very much that people would be bashing it.

Am i the only on who likes load and reload Huh,i admit they're not 2 of their best albums but they're much better than st. anger and theres some bloody good songs on those albums yes

Yeah, I really dig them too. And I don't get this whole thing that they are 'soft' albums.
Maybe compared to their earlier thrash albums they are, but I hear Black Sabbath influences and 70's blues-based hard rock/metal throughout, which is what the band has stated about them too. It's not as though they turned into Backstreet Boys or something... Huh

I'm really looking forward to the new album, especially with this talk of similar vibe to their earlier albums.
Metallica are never one to repeat themselves, so it'll be interesting to see what they've come up with.

Load / Re-Load was a change in sound for them and some fans don't like change. Many of those songs still kicked your ass.

If almost any other Rock band put out those two albums, they would be getting their asses kissed. I think people expected them to return to their heavier side after the "Black" album and when it didnt happen, alot of people got pissy.

If u listen to Master Of Puppets, and justice and ride the lightning and immediately listen to Load and reLoad, I don't understand how anyone could think those albums were good in anyway.

The three previously mentioned albums are timeless and classic.

Load and Reload sound shitty and dated.

What happened to everyone hating St Anger? Load is a great album, reload isn't anywhere near as good but still a decent album. The bluesy feel to load is what attracts me to it.

"St. Anger" is honestly the worst album I've ever heard.

Sweet Amber is pretty cool song though.

I dont really include St Anger because that album sucks because of the production and not necessarily because of the songs.

When I watch the "Somekind Of Monster" DVD, the songs on the album kick ass. Something went terribly wrong in the production, cause on the CD it sounds absolutely horrible.

Load and Reload are alternative? I can understand the nu-metal st anger thing but the Loads are not alternative in anyway.

I agree, not alternative.  a lot of the songs are more hard rock than metal, which turns off a lot of the old school fans of the first 4 (or 5) albums.

Now that I am older and far removed from the "WTF Metallica!?" phase I like both Load and ReLoad.  St Anger is a strong album musically, but James' vocals are ridiculous at times.  I have the Frantic track on a CD in my vehicle with all the "tick-tocks" edited out.  That song is pretty badass without all that.

Thinking back to what Bob Rock said about the under-produced, raw sound of the album.  "We were going for something that sounded like a band jamming together in a garage for the first time."  Not sure if I'm quoting that verbatim but I have to ask what was he thinking?  I could understand wanting to capture the drive, hunger, and intensity of a band wanting to explode with fire and emotion, but actually making it sound like a garage jam in the production??  I guess I just don't get it.

Hopefully with a new producer, the 9th album that I hear is supposed to be the "missing link" between Justice and Black we'll get a well-produced record.  I just can't help but remember the Rick Rubin-produced Ballbreaker by AC/DC.  Hopefully he does a better job here.

Hero Of the Day
Bleeding me

ughhh man. Some of those songs are unlistenable. I agree with the opinion thats there's probably one really kick ass album between both Load and reload. However fuel, bad seed, and ESPECIALLY where the wild things are would have nothing to do with it.

1. Ain't My Bitch
2. 2x4
3. The house Jack Built
4. Hero Of The Day
5. Devil's Dance
6. Bleeding Me
7. The Memory Remains
8. Wasting My Hate
9. Mama Said
10.Thorn Within
11. Prince Charming
12. Attitude
13. Ronnie
That's about it. The rest of the songs to me vary between unlistenable and songs that should have been just interesting b-sides.
