I will be quite suprised if the new album is any good. They have been terrible for a long time.

Really suprised that this hasn't been mentioned here.
Yeasterday (27th September) was the 21st aniversary of Cliff Burtons death. I always take some time to play along on the bass to some tracks off 'Tallicas albums with Cliff, and put Cliff Em All on for a watch.

Thats an awesome pic of Cliff's grave. Anyone hear 'Tallica didn't get nominated for the rock n roll hall of fame? What a joke. They should be nominated for "Kill 'Em All" by itself. Sex Pistols got in for Bulloks and KEA is a thousand times better.

Yeah? Thanks...
Weren't you the one who wished that James Hetfield had "burnt up back in 1992"?
Anyway, here's the poster for the benefit:

I think in alot of peoples minds, Metallica sold out. throughout the 80s, those guys constantly BASHED bands who were mainstream, and said they would never make a Video for MTV etc.
adn the Irony is, they sold out more than any of those mainstream bands did.

i love how they also started going for the black drain pipes and leather jacket look, a look they would have previously ripped on bands for having.

AJFA is a freaking masterpiece, man!
The video for One is a classic, and I am so glad they put it out.
Actually, that is how I came to be a Metallica fan, I saw the video for One and I was hooked.
Metallica is a first class band, and I cannot wait for the new album, and a tour of the world!

AJFA and Load are my favourite albums and I think this new one will be one of the heaviest things Metallica has ever done. I am also hoping for 1 or 2 slower songs to. Lars has been practicing alot by the sounds of the live stuff I heard and his double kickers are great atm.
I'm not to worried about Het's voice on the record but his live voice is shot. And I'm looking forward to hear Rob's contribution. I think he will change Metallica a bit.

Metallica's setlist from their acoustic set at the Bridge School Benefit, Saturday October 27, 2007:
I Just Want To Celebrate (Rare Earth)
Please Don't Judas Me (Nazareth)
I'm Only Happy When It Rains (Garbage)
Brothers In Arms (Dire Straits)
Disposable Hereos
All Within My Hands
Turn The Page
Nothing Else Matters
Certainly a very interesting set - five covers and three originals... I'd love to hear a recording!!!

I don't think thats a valid argument. The video for one is crazy, with all the "Johnny Got His Gun" clips. I don't think they thought it would get as much airplay as they did and you can argue it was done artistically as opposed to pimping AJFA. The black album videos are way different. The whole strobe light enter sandman thing and your standard concert vids for SBT and WIMR. And of course the prerequisite making of the song-in the studio vid for NEM.

Metallica to go 'melodic' on next album
http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/51100921
this is pretty funny because i remember when st.anger came out , they were claiming it was as good as master of puppets and that older material..

Maybe because they thought it was?
But from what I've heard since then, they're proud about 'St. Anger', but they will never go there again.

I'm a pretty avid Metallica fan I don't remember EVER hearing or reading about them saying that. They said it was gonna be a raw, heavy album with some of the speed of their earlier material, which is pretty spot on.
