stop the excuses.
he said he'll be back in 2002 with a bunch of new songs.
he wasnt back in rio in 2002, and at the places he did show up, there were no new songs.

...not to add to the flaming you've gotten, but...

what really surprises me is that Axl gets shit from fans for:

    1) not releasing CD in 2002/2003
    2) lack of communication w/ fans/press, etc.

last night, we've had a monumental fucking moment, when Axl, casually...and this is what i think MUST be underlined...CASUALLY (hell he almost volunteered) to come down to a radio station that leaked IRS years ago (not sure of exact date), relaxed and answered most of the major questions that have gotten X number of threads on HTGTH...

not only does Axl satisfy point 2) and tells you the likely release date for CD, but he volunteers information that he could've easily kept to himself (Izzy possibly jamming at the NY shows, more Europe dates, reunion rumours, etc).

you all know Axl's attitude when it comes to stuff not going his way. Christ that WAS Axl in the old GNR days, and he's the same person. the fact that the 2002 concert got cancelled, was obviously a consequence of Axl getting pissed at something that happened with CC or hell, even Interscope/Geffen.

after all those riots, bad press, you think Axl would've wanted to release CD under those conditions? (pretty much at the behest of the record company that he's reigned in for what, the past 10 years?)

my take is that unlike in 2002 (and i may be wrong, so please correct me), Axl is making himself more and more visible, songs have leaked at convenient times, shows are popping up left and right. He's comfortable with this moment (read: year), enough that i really think CD will come out this year.

let's not complain that they're working on the 2nd, or 3rd album. this shows that Axl & co. are actually getting together and pushing forward as a band, and have some sort of future plans. what, you wanted them to release CD, tour, then have Axl go back to his Brian Jones status and not come out for another decade?

let's give Axl a big  beer for what transpired last night on the radio...and stay as optimistic as all you (i'm sure) were during each rumour-phase of GNR's new phase...

     peace

I can't agree enough. I honestly don't think Axl could've made a better move at this point then last night.

I have friends that called ME today because they heard about it and said "WTF?! How come I didn't hear about this??? And it was cool to be like "Hey, Axls unpredictable you never know whats gonna happen!"

Go ahead and complain that CD is coming in fall and that the band is playing old songs, I don't give a fuck.  Axl is back and I'm happy.  The new guitarist has nothing to do with the past, but that fucking nightrain rendition was bluesy as hell!!!!!!   So booo yahh look out.

Boo ya! I like how you think. ?The mere fact that Axl made an appearance ON THE RADIO shows that the wheels are in motion. ?Granted, with GNR, you can't expect to see and album until you walk into a store and buy it. ?However, something feels a lot better now than it did back in 2002 when things were more controversial. ?

i feel that axl needed to take time off, and some might be like 9 years from 93-02 is too long, and from 02 to 06 why now? the answer is people need a break gnr was the biggest band in the world and they all lived that rockstar live style, it takes a toll on you.? from 02 till now, he made it clear that they are working on material, i think a good album should take about 4 years to do, so they re working on 3. i think we ll see CD this year, axl seems more positive about the bands future then ever.? do you have to take it with a grain of salt, sure, but would you rather hear him say nothing.? i mean he wrote a letter when bucket left that said they ll announce a release in the upcoming months, that was 2 years ago.? but since january he s been out regularly.? so we ll see what happens but it definitely seems like positive things are happening. and if people complain about the old songs during the nyc shows, i mean shit i want to hear the old songs like i always want to hear some new stuff too, you just have to enjoy the whole experience

To me it is  all good news.

People for years have been saying nothing will happen until Axl says it will, and now he says the Fall '06.
Second, for those in Europe who fear the worse: remember 1991 when 6 months prior to UYI the band went on tour and played 60%+ of new songs. So it is all coming  together  in a good way. I think the Fall tour will not be that much different from the summer, so enjoy!

Axl was asked about a fall release.... Axl replied yes, absolutely......
I do like the sound of that but Axl did not actually say fall he simply replied to a question.

I got everything from that thread. The first part is where Sebastian calls Axl on his cellphone that leads to Axl agreeing to come to the studio.

Hearing the words directly from Axl's mouth is alot more positive and assuring than any words concerning a release date we've previously heard from say Tommy, or Dizzy.

Axl did not have the tone that the album will for 100% certainty be out in the fall, but he damn well had the tone that Gn'R is just going to go with the flow and if all goes well over in Europe, then we shall have Chinese Democracy with a tour of our own to follow Cheesy

The subject of the albums release is entirely out of our hands and control....

The positive state of mind that is detectable in this radio interview from Axl is almost surreal...even comparing the moods of 2002 Axl vs. 2006 is like night and day...

The less pressure he continues to feel, the better it is for us in the long end is all I can say beer ok

I hate to be a gloomy Gus, but I question that we will see a fall release. I think the album will come out, (knock on wood) as the band is now active again, but you know how it is with album delays. My money is on the spring (of fall) of '07.

God help us if in December of this year we have a post that's titled "Will 2007 be the year 'Chinese Democracy' comes out."

Hey Megaguns - I think you might be missing some of the interview.  According to my clock, (I was listening on the radio, not the web) he arrived at the studio at 1:15, and left at 2:50, which is more than 1hr 11mins.

For some reason, I get this "mellow" vibe from Axl now.  Like he's really grown up a lot, from 2002 and ESPECIALLY the old days.  He joked a couple of times about "arriving late" and "staying late" at past Gn'R shows.  Almost like he knows now what a joke it was, and he's past that.   I didn't feel that during the interview he was going to snap or get up and leave.

Also, he DID say "fall."  100%.  He says it again at the very end of the interview.  "Album will be out in the fall."

Why won't a fall release date happen again? Please remind me. When has Axl ever promised a release date before now?
