Bullet For My Valentine is not emo, they're metal.  Emo is crap bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.  BFMV is a metal band that's more influenced by Iron Maiden than they are by any punk bands.  So, if you dislike BFMV please continue voicing your displeasure, just don't label them emo because they aren't  ok

I'd say that's a good description, providing you need to label them.

That's the truth.  Bullet For My Valentine's quite an upgrade from Mixmaster Mike and CKY

sometimes these opening bands can surprise. GNR at MSG in '91, the opening act was a semi-new upstart band most, at that time, hadn't heard of.

that band was soundgarden and they rocked. ok

Just downloaded The Poison (album) by Bullet For My Valentine to see what they sound like. Hmmm...

Vocals: There's a hint of Green Day about them
Drums: Fast, GoooD!
Guitars: Seem to blend into the overal sound too much.

Overal: Not bad  beer
Overal: They sound quite manic, almost in a Slipknot way, although i don't like Slipknot as the vocals don't work for me and the boiler suits are just too much of a gimmick.

FYI for those who aren't from NYC - there are no chairs on the floor at Hammerstein for concerts.  They have a full bar; drinks are somewhat expensive compared to outside of NYC.  Maybe $8 for a Jack & Coke in a small plastic cup, probably $5 for a can of beer.  That's pretty much average for all these types of concert venues in the city.

As far as timing - if doors are at 7:30, I would expect to see the openers at maybe 8:30, with GNR set to take the stage at 10.    I don't plan to walk in before 8:30 - at the earliest.  Another side note - Hammerstein doesn't allow re-entry AT ALL - that means no walking outside to smoke, & you can't smoke inside (theoretically, of course).

Who cares. No one will give a shit. I could sit through a 9 hour Yani concert if I knew the corn-rowed one "with a whole bunch of new songs" was following afterwards. drool

It's music. It will be loud. There will be alcohol. Good to go. ok

March of the Pigs

« Reply #92 on: May 02, 2006, 04:12:27 PM »

ok take this for what you will.  I recently attended the Dream Theater 20th Anniversary show, which was being taped for a DVD.  Building up to the event, everyone was talking about the 11 pm curfew in NYC and whether or not they would break curfew.  Well, they came on exactly at 8 (rare) and played til 11:01.  They seemed to cut short a number of jams and while the show was very good, the set was much shorter than the "very special" billing would have left you to believe.  Apparently its not the venues' choice but a union regulation.  I've heard that you can be fined from 1,000 to 10,000 per minute over 11.  Pearl Jam also had issues with this curfew at MSG in 2003, playing well past 11, but for some reason the fine was actually dropped.  best case scenario, BFMV comes on close to 730 and plays til 815 ish, GNR hits stage between 9-915.  Not sayin most likely, just best case.

All 3 Stones shows at MSG on the recent tour ended just before 12, so I guess the curfew there is midnight. I think it varies from venue to venue - clubs and bars can have music much later into the night. I also heard a couple of years ago, though not from anyone official, that the fine is $10k/minute - this was when The Stones played Roseland in 2002.

It says on the ticketmaster site that BFV are going on at 9pm so I am thinking 11pm for GNR...10PM would be sweet!!!!!!  But I am gonna bet closer to 11p

It also says on Ticketmaster that Bullet for My Valentine are playing the Chicago House of Blues on May 14th at 7 PM central. So unless they can teleport  to NYC after their set ends at 8 Eastern time I would take anything Ticketmaster says with a grain of salt.

Bullet for my Valentine, supporting Guns N' Roses, are fucking brilliant.  They have some awesome guitars... the riffs are ALL brilliant... they have a very talented singer... the whole band just are so fucking tight.  They're on tour with GnR for a reason.  Guns N' Roses hasn't ever just whacked some shitty band on for the sake of it... I bet you Axl Rose is a fan.

Anyway... got my Download tickets! w00t!

Exactly my thought process.....

Though I would NOT sit through a 9 hour Yani concert, no matter who was going on afterwards.
