I'm a small town white boy...

« on: May 02, 2006, 10:21:03 PM »

I'm talking about the original vinyl here.  I traded my stoner cousin a pair of headphones for it in 1990.  I'm not sure he knew what he was giving away at the time.  Told him a few weeks ago what it runs now on ebay.  He was a little pissed.   beer

Anybody else care to share?

I got it (mint condition, still "wrapped"/un-opened) for $75 (not sure if that was a good price or not... didn't care) seven year ago. I then took the record out and  had it mounted with the sleave on a "see-through" glass frame (so you can still take it off the wall and look at the back of the record and sleave if you want). It is my most PRIZED GN'R possession bar none...

Bought it at Venus Records, NYC, when it used to be on West 8th Street across from Electric Ladyland Studios. Back when West 8th Street used to da SHIZNIZ.

Purchased in 1988 for $20. Brand spanking new.

Later on, I made friends with a guy who worked there at the time I purchased it. He remembers they found a few copies in the back. When Appetite came out and blew up, they figured 'okay, we'll jack up the price to $20 and see who buys it". Needless to say the few copies were gone LIKETHAT.

I found did amongst my dad's old collection...
I put it in a framing and it's hanging on my wall.

It's signed by Izzy, Duff and Slash.

Funny how there's more GN'R in Velvet Revolver then there is in Guns N' Roses.

Bought it in 1999 from a french auction site (now gone, much to my regret). I paid about $70 for it, which I consider a good bargain.

Bought mine in early 1987 - brand new as in import into the UK, in a wonderful record store (that's still there) that used to stock all sorts of imports and picture disks etc. I paid a huge sum (for then) of ?36. It has been played many many times. It's easy in retrospect to wish you'd never played it but it was never off my turntable until I got a copy of ADF (again with the original artwork) in 87.

But...as i result of buying that 'Live Like a Suicide' I saw Guns on two of the three marquee gigs that they played in June 87, when they were still almost unknown in the UK at that point.

I do have a Japanese import of AFD with a totally different cover again...thats never been even out of the sleeve...wonder how much that's worth!

Funny you should mention it....(though I agree with Pandora):

I don't have the vinyl.  I have a bootlegged copy (cassette tape, mind you...though since transplanted to CD..hiss and all) taken from an album that was bought at a GnR gig from the merchandise table.  My uncle, who lived out in LA at the time, bought it...he loved the music so much, he ended up sending copies to all his nieces and nephews.  I know that, at least, 4 of my cousins still have their cassettes hanging around.

How do I tell if mine is real?  I have two of them. One I got back in 1992 from a very reliable source for $150.00. The second copy was an Xmas gift from my father from 2002, he bought it on ebay...

I would imagine that AFD is the most bootleged vinyl....The rape cover perhaps....
