This should about sum it up:

Bob Dylan - Masters of War

Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
While the death count gets higher
Then you hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

That would've been my suggestion.

Or "Holiday".

Both would work.

Not REALLY current, but how about Paradise City?  Cheesy

Captain America's been torn apart
Now he's a court jester with a broken heart
He said -
Turn me around and take me back to the start
I must be losin' my mind - "Are you blind?"
I've seen it all a million times

Seriously, how do ya figure?

They were languishing in obscurity (again), practically playing bars, until they started playing AI material, WHICH THEY WROTE.

Or is it just that you think ANY band who achieves success in the industry are hypocrit sell-outs?

political recentish and curse words perfect

Rage Against the Machine - Bullet In The Head

This time the bullet cold rocked ya
A yellow ribbon instead of a swastika
Nothin' proper about ya propaganda
Fools follow rules when the set commands ya
Said it was blue
When ya blood was read
That's how ya got a bullet blasted through ya head

Blasted through ya head
Blasted through ya head

I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched as the feds cold centralized
So serene on the screen
You were mesmerised
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn ya to stone before ya realise
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Run it!

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Checka, checka, check it out
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

No escape from the mass mind rape
Play it again jack and then rewind the tape
And then play it again and again and again
Until ya mind is locked in
Believin' all the lies that they're tellin' ya
Buyin' all the products that they're sellin' ya
They say jump and ya say how high
Ya brain-dead
Ya gotta fuckin' bullet in ya head

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Uggh! Yeah! Yea!

Ya standin' in line
Believin' the lies
Ya bowin' down to the flag
Ya gotta bullet in ya head

Ya standin' in line
Believin' the lies
Ya bowin' down to the flag
Ya gotta bullet in ya head

A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
A bullet in ya head!
Ya gotta bullet in ya fuckin' head!

Yeah!

Yeah!

I didn't say that, but they're really milking it big time... I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but that's my opinion. Take it or leave it, no one's forcing you to change your mind.

I admit, I do like a couple of their songs, but I keep thinkin' that before they wrote the songs for the American Idiot album, they just thought "hey, I know, lets make an entire album showing us being angry at the current state of America! Everyone will think we're SOOOO integral and SOOOO awesome and we'll make shitloads!" Roll Eyes

Honestly, I'm not trying to be snarky.? Just wanted to hear your reasoning behind the opinion....

Given their other albums, and the fact they shelved one album because they didn't like the quality of the material (and pissed off their label, in the process, who thought "it was just fine), and They've had other opportunities to make a buck and not taken them,? I'm not sure I buy into your idea.? ?But I can certainly see the logic behind it.....and would never begrudge you your opinion.? I was just curious, given their reputation and such, why you would think what you do.? I hear from the younger set, just as I heard it from the "punk" (and by that, I mean it as "into punk music" not the "Scooby doo meddling punk kids way)  kids when I was in school, the objections that anyone who "makes it" in the industry is a sell out.? I was just wondering if you had reasoning behind your opinion (you do), or if you were just of the type I mention, above.

I just think the current political climate pissed 'em off and gave them lots of ammunition to write about. They're sort of my "contemporaries", from an age perspective, and I can certainly see their perspective pretty clearly.? ?Personally, I think AI is probably the best rock album released since Nevermind...and keep in mind, while I like their stuff, I've never been a huge Green Day fan.

Well I guess we're just arguin' from two different sides of the coin... I don't particularly like Nevermind either... hihi A few songs... but I don't particularly like what Nirvana did to the rock scene...

Which brings about the idea for another thread...

i was never a fan of Green Day but i think they have written an album that deserves to be noticed whether it was intentional or not i dont know but you can not blame them for writing an album which sums up the gemeral times and people who dont normally like there music catch on to it, its not being a sell out its just being successful AI is an amazing album and it shows with the sales and great reviews but it it still a punk anti establisment album.
