Who is it, and why?

I say my favorite KC Royals. They have lost 100 games in 3 of the past 4 years. A record. They are in rebuilding mode, but are old, have no speed, no power, and are slow. And no pitching. Worst record in MLB so far this year. Any other nominations?

As far as combined records, yes the current Kansas City Royals are the worst.

But, if you want single team records, the 1960 mets with 120 losses and the 2003 Detroit Tigers with 119 losses are the worst teams of all time.

The Royals are on pace to break that record.  They are on pace to lose about 140 games!

New York Yankees

210 million dollar payroll and still struggle.

KC,TB are small markets so its hard for them to compete

Yankees have by far the biggest payroll and still have a hard time, they should destroy everyone.

I would say the Marlins but the talent is there they just have to develop.

I think Krispy Kreme was right. KC bad now and no hope for the future.

I'd say the Royals are the worst team in Major League Baseball this year.  They really don't have anything going for them.  Even Mike Sweeny has gotten off to a bad start.  However, the worst franchise in baseball has to be the Devil Rays.  They've been in the league since 98 and have never even come close to sniffing the playoffs.  They've only finished above last place once.  They have a terrible stadium to play in also.  If baseball could drop one team it should definitely be them.  I know this debate hasn't been discussed in a fe years, but I'm still for dropping a couple franchises from the league.  As a follow up question...which franchises if any do you guys and gals think should be dropped from the league?

D you must be on shrooms!  The Yankees have been in the playoffs for the last 9 consecutive years.  Only the Braves can top that.  Jst because they don't win 120+ gamesa year doesn't mean they struggle.  Sorry but I don't consider a team that is currently in 1st place the worst in baseball.

First I agree the Yawkees aren't the worst team in baseball however they are the best choke artists in the history of baseball, gotta give'em props for that. Secondly their tied for 1st place with Red Sox who will beat em tonight, thats a given. Now Lastly the Yawkees have the most expensive payroll in baseball argutively one of the best line-ups in baseball for the past 6 years, of course i dont agree with that, but they haven't won a championship in the last 6 years and thats where the problem lies for most baseball fans, unlike myself most people think these guys should be winning with that kind of talent, personally I'm glad their not as F-Rod's a cheater, i mean its on film, and the anti-christ can go to hell cuz thats exactly where he belongs.

Choke : the official soft drink of the new york yankees.? smoking

P.S. The royals are the worst club in baseball right now, its a given. Well besides the yawkees.

I'll give you the choke artist part because obviously they choked on it pretty hard last year and the year before and the year before.....

NY can spend a billion dollars on their everyday lineup and they may have the same results because the pitching isn't there and neither are the role players.  Nobody bunts, steals bases, hits sac flys, etc.  They live and die with the long ball and they have been dying with it in the post-season.

Overpaying for people and not winning the championship isn't choking, its bad management.

Look up choke in a baseball dictionary and you will find this:

Up by 1 run in the bottom of the 10th. 2 outs and an 0-2 count with the bases empty, and the RedSox find away to lose that game and than 2 nights later blow a 3-0 lead.

Actually Choking is when you go into a League Championship Series with every media outlet backing you, you take a 3-0 lead in this said series than you lose said series 4-3. You can say all you want about the red sox choking but you will never be able to deny this:

The New York Yawkees are the only team in the history of MLB that have ever been up a series 3-0 and lost that series therefore they are the biggest choke artists in the history of baseball. I belive papers around the world had the word choke written in the headline at least my local paper did: "Yankees CHOKE, Red Sox somehow win series 4-3".

And just for good measure I'll once again include my statement from before:

That was definitely a choke by the Yankees, I'm not arguing that.

I would rank that as #1b. If it happened in the World Series it easily would be the worst.

Being up 3-2 with a lead in the bottom of the 10th, needing 1 strike to end what was than a 68 year drought, in my opinion was the worst choke in baseball. Well, there was that big lead the Cubs blew in the '69 season as well.

Worst team on the field in the last 5 years has been the KC Royals, Every year they seem to be 10 games back and out of contention in the END OF MAY. They are on pace to loose 118 games this season.

Worst team in the last decade for me would be the Tigers, Year after year they start out decent and then drop like rocks in water, being a fan of them its hard to watch them even now, when they are second best in the AL, because I know they will get to a point where they will drop 8 or 9 in a row and 14 of 16 and be out of contention.

Worst Market would of been Montreal but sense they finally moved, it would definently be Tampa Bay I don't think people in the city care or rally for the team at all, besides having the smallest payroll, they play in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees.  Not to mention every few years the Oriole's and Blue Jays make a solid run. Yankes and BoSox are in contention for the division title every year.  They can call it rebuilding but in 20 years the Devil Rays will still not be a contender.  Maybe after the Marlins move out west (sense they can't get a baseball only stadium in Miami) then people in Florida would turn to the Devil Rays.

Marlins are the only club that can win it all, gut the team, rebuild and win it all agin 5 years later, and then gut the club again.

Hardest Up Fans would have to be Cubs fans as they havnt won it all in almost 90 years, and then a few years back they have a chance to go to the worlds series and one of their own fans screw them.  And playing in the only 6 team division baseball doesn't help their chances.

Most over paid player in baseball would be Alex Rodiquiz 3B from the Yankees, for the money they spent on getting him from the Rangers he really hasnt tipped the team that much.

Alex could win MVP every year and still not be worth $25 million.

The Mets re-structured Glavines contract yesterday setting aside nearly $5 million. With their rash of injuries to the starting staff, dont be surprised if this is the first step in acquiring Zito from the A's.

KC Royals!

19 game losing streak last year, second longest streak in history.
13 game losing streak this year, preceded by an 11 game losing streak this year. Only team to have 10+ losing streaks in first two months of season.
On pace to  lose 125 games, topping the Mets' 120 losses.
Rebuilding for 12 years. A youth movement in which batters 2-6 average 35.5 years  of age.
No speed, no power.
No starting pitching, no bullpen.
No defense.
Pathetic.

Finally, the Royals fired their GM and will start over (again). They will lose 100 game  again this year, for the 4th time in 5  years, a major league  record, but at least  this new GM is respected  and there is some hope that the team will be  respectable  at  some point in the near future.
