I've heard several rumors about this song. This is probably my favorite song of all music in general. When people ask my favorite song, I reply with "Oh My God" by GNR. But...I heard it's not going to be on the album, which I don't care if it is or isn't, but then again I've also heard that Axl has said in interviews that he will redo the song and place it on the track listing. Thoughts anyone?

no one will know for certain. ?However, if I had to guess, CD will not have previously released songs on it...even if re-done. ?Especially a song that wasn't all that well received. ?My guess is that 90% chance OMG will not be on CD

Maybe - I could see the song showing up again somewhere down the line. After all, Fortus stated during an interview in 2002 that he had purchased a new guitar specifically for the song, which means that they were probably going to work it back into the setlist as the tour went on.

Still, who knows - Considering the old band let a gem like "Crash Diet" go without giving it proper album recognition, anything's possible.

Can you provide me a link to said interview with Fortus?

I honestly see nothing wrong with this song, I love the chorus...the other parts aren't GREAT, but they're not bad either...I've never liked Dave Navarro's work with bands that were popular that he joined and made bad stuff with. (RHCP and i spose GnR...I know he didn't join, but he made the song).

hope it doesnt make it

i always liked dave navarro job but this track is not worth to be on chinese democracy

remember this?HuhHuh

After 'Chinese Democracy,' Axl says, "Now, there's been some concern... that if we play 5 or 6 new songs, then there can't that many more on the album. Au contraire mon fr?re! We're just playin' the songs we're not considering putting out as singles or anything. So you'll get 18 songs and about 10 extra tracks. And when that... when the record company feels that has run [it's] source, then you'll get it all over again. And by that time, I should be done with the 3rd album!

I really liked the RIR III version, I would like to hear it on a live album maybe GNR would put out with live CD tracks sometime in 2007, that way they would music from 2001,2002, Europe 2006, and possibly NA 2006.  A good plan would be to release CD before the summer then next spring release a live album containing either a re worked OMG, or a version theyll play coming up.  But who knows what they have planned.

I've always liked it. It's very different and modern. I don't know if it'll be on there, because it's been out for awhile and it wasn't received very well when it came out.

Thats the best way to put it. I like the song and would not care if it is on the cd. Since it was already  released I don't think it will. I think it would be cool on a single and I think it would show up on their next greatest hit one day like how Sympathy For The Devil was and that was only on a soundtrack intill then also.

Considering that the song was first released seven years ago, they'll have to rework it if they don't want the album to sound dated. ?Unless of course it's a compilation album or something. ?

« Reply #17 on: April 27, 2006, 11:53:17 PM »

This song totally grew on me and I hope it is, but I'm pretty sure it won't be. I think there's like an un-written law about tunes contributed to soundtracks
should'nt be on an original CD. I think it's got something to do with royalties , whereas right now OMG is on the End of Days Soundtrack, and anyone who wants it has to buy it, and then all of the other bands on that soundtrack get a piece too. ?So if he puts it on Democracy, he's essentially taking
$$$ away from Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc........ Something along those line, at least.

Maybe "specifically" wasn't the right word, but his quote indicates that the song was coming back. The article is on www.newgnr.com, in the articles section - It's Richard's interview with Anderson guitars:

TAGW: Which songs do you play on the Baritom?

Richard: Haven't used it live yet with G n' R. I'm going to use it on "Oh My God" and "Silkworms" (from the forthcoming Chinese Democracy record) live. I've used it in the studio on the new BT record and also on the new Deep Dish record.

At best mediocre. At worst, wretched. Get a melody.
