Axl mentions by disc jockeys...not too good

Well, while driving home during last night's rush hour, 93 rock here in Miami cranked out SCOM. When it was over, the disc jockey mentioned that "rumor has it" axl's new band will be playing in NY (duh, confirmed ya nipplehead!)
Then she started ranking on his bloated face, calling him a hermit and the fact he's had a ton of surgeries and looks ridiculous, laughing all the way (while some of it is certainly based in reality, this chick had obviously written him off for good).
She was making a laughingstock of him. Is this crap happening in other markets? What's the word on the radio in other cities? This kinda banter isn't gonna help them one bit with younger audiences...they'll see him as an old, pathetic has-been.

In Chicago, it's been positive on Mancow's Morning Madhouse and somewhat negative on Brandmeier's show on the Loop. Otherwise, there was a late night Q101 dj was mentioned the new songs and was pretty positive.

As Merck said to the haters from the NY Times... "I believe Axl will have the last laugh."

The way I see it, the guy never really had that great of a public image anyway. If the songs are as good as I feel they will be, the music will do the talking
and everyone who obsesses on the guy's appearance will look very immature and childish in the end

I disagree. It may sound bad, but when younger people hear this and check him out/hear his music they'll think the disc jockey was on crack.
It certainly isn't that bad...

A station here in Sweden mentioned the rumours about Slash quitting VR and joining GN'R. He said he hoped they were true, since Axl and Slash made the band. Nothing negative about Axl though.

a lot of people younger than me like my brother already views him as an old guy and automatically classes their stuff as crap
his view and the view of a lot of people of his age is that if your not below 30 then you should not make music

I say the hell with DJs opinions, its opinions like this that make a case for automated djs that just play music and have stupid one liners.

Same thing happened in Tampa about a month back. Played SCOM and then went on to say how much the leaks "SUCKED".
Nobody I know takes the new band seriously. When I mention I'm going to see them in NYC they say "Original or the coverband with Axl?"

Anyone who bases their opinion on music entirely on a singers age automatically makes their opinion irrelevant.

Yawn.
In the past five years, look at who has come and gone--Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Creed, Godsmack...and a million others.
No one gives a shit about them, but Axl is still relevant, he's still a star.
Only two weeks to go!

The other day I was getting into it with a 20 year old at work who was trying to tell me that Godsmack was the greatest thing since sliced bread and that Guns N' Roses just sucked.
I responded by telling him that Godsmack was nothing but a second rate Alice in Chains cover band
His response: I don't like Alice In Chains either.................Enough said

Sadly, same thing happened here in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. Triple M were playing songs from AFD as part of an Easter special on best albums of all time.. playing a few tracks from each. The dickhead said "this is before Axl turned a bit gaga"
Same thing happened last year. They used taking the piss out of Axl to advertise the Velvet Revolver tour they were promoting and sponsoring. Along the lines of "whilst Axl has been doing (looney noises from some old guy came on).. Velvet Revolver has been doing this (and a riff was played).
Funny thing is, this station is the only station that still plays rock here in Sydney (and not very well I must say) and when Axl comes to Australia.. they will be the first ones getting on their knees to try and get an interview and be part of the action. I remember a thread which was posting all the pro and negative stations - Mysteron - don't forget this one!!

People on the radio here in Rochester, NY feel the same as any GNR fan, when they talk about Axl/Gnr, they talk as if they are just as desperate to hear CD
