I was listening to 95.5 KLOS Rock Report today and they said that GNR will be releasing a 2 CD compilation album on Dec 20. They also mentioned that Richard Fortus was going back into the studio to record guitar parts for Chinese Democracy.

What is the deal with the best of album? I haven't really followed the rumors because I don't really have any interest in the album since I own all the cds already. But can someone sum up what's going on, since I don't really want to bother reading the 65 page thread on the topic to find out. The rumored release date of dec. 20 doesn't seem possible since it is just over two weeks away and we have zero official info about the album.

It doesn't exist. From Blabbermouth:-

According to a posting at So Hood Magazine, a Geffen spokeswoman has shot down rumors that the label plans to release a GUNS N' ROSES "greatest hits" double-disc CD, called "Welcome to the Jungle - The Very Best of Guns N' Roses", in December. The spokeswoman told So Hood Magazine no such album is on the label's rosters for release. Speculation about the rumored CD has been circulating around the Internet for weeks, with major sites, including Amazon.com and Billboard.com, posting reports that the album would hit store shelves on Dec. 20. The spokeswoman called these reports ''incorrect.''

Weird, weird, weird.

I'm wandering whether Universal continue to bother with GNR if nothing happens after 2006. Could they threaten to drop them if there is no product?

The "Best Of..." was a warning to Mr. Rose

Mr. Rose, reportedly, has another deadline to make.

I've posted about this before, asking the same question. The thing is, Geffen aren't paying Axl anymore-so they dont really lose anything more than what they already invested if he doesnt release CD. Now it was a pretty substantial amount of money theyve put in, even if they arent paying now---and they can recoup it by putting out things like GH. I guess it comes down to whether or not geffen are just sick of dealing w/ Axl and his people in general. Then again, if i were in their position now where im no longer losing money on the artist but could benefit greatly if he ever did release something, I'd just wait it out. No harm, no foul, right?

I agree. At the same time I think they really want him to release something. People are always like big comebacks (think Tyson) and its the ultimate marketing dream. The riskiest projects usually create the most return therefore done right they probably are treading a delicate line between trying to pressurise Axl yet at the same time not piss him off.

Dear Gunners.
My source? at universal have been told to estimate how many records
of GH 2 they can sell.
People are now using these calculations to see if a GH 2 record would be worth a release.

He also told me he have not heard a single word about CD.

Best regards/Johan
