if thats the case, then I see that as positive in a sense

I personally dont see it as being a very big deal outside of these forums and in the rock press. i sense indifference rather than any popular culture reference

I dont really see anything positive from this. As the joke gets even more 'mainstream' than it already is, it puts a negative aspect on the album, and taints the band members to a degree. GNR is already in a big hole. How much deeper does the hole have to get before Axl tries to get himself out? Whats next? skits on SNL doing a parody of the situation? A Time magazine cover about CD and the ineffective and inept Axl? A segment on 60 minutes? I'm surprised that stand up comedians haven't put Chinese Democracy into their skits.

my point is , I dont see any of your examples happening. If they were, that would be an indication that people give a damn - all I see is indifference

Well, I see your point. So you think we're drifting past CD being a pop culture joke to CD being at the point of irrelevance?

I hope CD is a success critically so at least Axl can reclaim a bit of dignity - 2002 really damaged alot of the mystery and intrigue I feel

who knows - I just dont see it at this point being a popular culture joke - in fact, I dont think that many people are even aware he's been making this album

most people, when GNR comes up think they broke up years ago - a great band in the late 80's early 90's

Great point about 2002. I believe if the tour had never taken place, we would have gotten the album in 2003. The 2002 fiasco seemed to have shattered what little self esteem he had left, and he has spent the past 3 years trying to pick up the pieces. I also agree with you about CD being a critical success. I think for the sake of Axl (and the future of new GNR), it is more important for the album to get rave reviews than it is for CD to sell millions and millions of records.

Rave reviews would'nt be hard to get due to the state of rock music these days. Tongue

I agree. I truly believe it will be critically acclaimed by just about every media outlet as long as it isnt loaded with Silkworm caliber songs. The media conspiracy against Axl has always been a myth. It never existed.

I agree  - its Axls large chip on his shoulder which has caused him to perpetrate that myth

That must be the default date for unconfirmed releases or something similar.

I'm assuming that they have to list a date if they are going to run a pre-order, but they don't want to list Dec 20th.... then have it pass and have to deal with complaints.

I just find it curious that they did have the 20th listed and have since changed it, I'm sure they must have gotten word that it is going to be delayed. I just can't understand how both parties (Axl/Sanctuary, Geffen) can be so tight lipped about everything. Why not make some sort of announcement about this thing??

They do that when release dates change to no forseeable future. I've seen a lot of items get bumped 20 years into the future just cause it's easier to keep the listing and change the date, than it is to remove the listing and re-create it if the record company changes their mind at the last minute.
