Personally I think that at the end of the day, an avatar is just an avatar. Its a small square picture.

A PICTURE.

And if someone wants to have an offensive picture as an avatar... well so what? If it offends you, don't be angry at the person having it as their avatar, be angry at the actual thing that's offending you IN the avatar. After all, the person choosing to have it as their avatar didn't actually DO the offensive thing in the avatar, but they're having it as an avatar because it means something to them.

At the end of the day, there are no offensive things, just things that people who are offended by them.
