Rhiad and Silkworms tribute

Hey! I know these two tracks seems to be dissed by most fans. But I really like them both alot! And I do really hope that they are on the album and are performed live this summer. So I just want to make a thread about these songs and their great qualities.
For example I played Silkworms to a friend of mine and his girlfriend and they both saw it's potential ant thought it was the best new track next to Better. They immediatly saw it's connection to the Sex Pistols and they are quiet rigth in my opinion. AFD was punk for the 80's and Silkworms continues in the same vein for the 2000ands and the lyrics are so awesome!
And Rhiad is really fantastic! What is there not to like about this song? It's classic GNR as far as I am concerned and it would be a great opener for the tour. It truly kicks ass and the riffs are somewhat similar to Use Your Illussion I
So I could be right or wrong but this is a thread for focusing on the qualaties of the songs since I'm already aware they been bashe quiet a bit

Rhiad would sound great in the studio.. especially with big drums when he sings the chorus....
Silkworms isn't the greatest in my opinion.

Hehe I remember starting a Silkworms appreciation thread a while back.
The intro to it is fantastic. Listen to the HOB 2001 version. It's shit hot.

I love Riyadh. It's my favorite new Gun's song. I would be very happy to hear the studio
version.

I like Rhiad, I think it's a rocking song. Silkworms isn't what I want to hear from GnR, the lyrics were bad and I didn't like Axl singing with the Down On The Farm voice, but the music itself is actually cool

Can't say I share your enthusiasm for these songs. Maybe they take some time to grow on you though. Back in 2002 I focused more on the 3 songs they played at every show then these 2 so I didn't really give them many listens. After all, even the leaked tracks took a couple listens to fully appreciate.

I can't even say that I've heard either Rhiad or Silkworms. In fact, they're the only two new songs I haven't heard from the list. Hopefully I get the chance before traveling to NYC on the 12th...

Ah, the forgotten CD songs.
Rhiad would be awesome in the studio if Axl redid the lyrics and structure of the lyrics - That intro is fucking cool.
Same deal with Silkworms - Musically, I love it - The little guitar jabs between the electronica are terrific. If Axl tinkered with how it was sung, he'd really have something.

I've always dug silk worms. The intro is very cool sounding. the lyrics and melody touch on a piece of angst we've all felt at one time or another... and the slow clean breakdown in the middle has some of the coolest guitar tones i've heard. I like the blantent aggression in it.
Rhiad is cool... not blown away by the lyrics but the melody is strong and it rocks.

It's a good thing you're making a tribute to these songs here. 'Cause I don't think they'll be playing them again.

I think otherwise. We'll see maybe like in less than a month.

Or rather more like pil ie the band John rydon made after he "quited" the pistols. I prefer pil to the pistols btw.
Anyways, I agree with you on both fronts.
Although the version we've heard would need some more work imo, fantastic is the word for Rhiad.

Riyadh and the Bedouins in my opinion is probably the worst song out of the new 9 songs (I think it's 9 songs) that I've heard, I've listened to each different bootleg version out there, and even watched the bootleg videos of it over and over and over, I still can't get into the song. I don't like all the screeming in it, maybe if he did something else, except those whoa whoa's part, it would have a lot of potential. As far as Silkworms go, I think it's a great song, and would love to eventually hear a studio or demo version of it.

Matter of taste but your taste is quite an interesting one, which is good.
Can you name some other bands/music you're into?

Riyadh is just an amazing song, The music is so fast and it sounds complex, more so then it really is, It's very busy. The London, England Version from 2002 is by far the best version of this song. The last chorus is fantastic, like Mr. I said a studio version would be awesome. Silkworms is a deifferent story altogether, aside from the music just being very "thrown together" (I dont think the instruments mesh well) the lyrics are horrible. Pittman and reed should leave the lyric writing to Mr. Rose.
By the way I hope they play Riyadh on May 15th!!!

I've always liked Rhiad too. Such a kickass song. Crushing guitars, pounding drums, and Zepplin style vocals. Nothing wrong with that in my book. I always had a soft spot for Silkworms. It puts a smile on my face on account of it's goofy, disgusting lyrics. Cool guitar as well. Not Axl's best but better than My World.

Would be cool to hear Rhiad again, both studio and live. I hope Silkworms appears on a b-side somewhere - love the venomous lyrics
