Press release:

GUNS N? ROSES ANNOUNCE RECORD SETTING
THIRD APPEARANCE AT ROCK IN RIO

The Rock in Rio-Lisbon Festival proudly announces the appearance of Guns N? Roses as headliners for the second night of the 5 day event. The GNR performance will take place on May 30, 2004.

Considered one of the greatest rock front men of all time, Axl Rose has a long relationship with Rock in Rio, having performed at both the 1991 and 2001 Festivals.
In 2001, over 200,000 music fans cheered the return of Guns N? Roses, hailing their performance as the best the Festival offered.  After being away from the concert stage for 7 years, Axl took the opportunity to introduce the new line up of Guns N? Roses and gave the audience a memorable performance that lasted well over 2 hours. After the mesmerizing show, MTV?s Kurt Loder claimed it to be ??the return of Rock & Roll?.

With their daring attitude, irreverent style and powerful stage presence, Axl Rose and Guns N? Roses are once again ready to amaze the Festival audience. The Guns N? Roses show promises to be the MUST SEE event of the Rock in Rio - Lisbon Festival.

For Roberto Medina, founder of Rock in Rio, Axl?s ?strength and energy? are so unique, and a ?fundamental? addition to the Rock in Rio stage. Mr. Medina acknowledges that Guns N? Roses support of the Event, and ability give the audience an astonishing concert performance time and time again is what Rock in Rio is all about. Mr. Medina has the utmost respect for the band and couldn?t be happier that they are once again participating.

Rock In Rio takes place in Lisbon one week before the Euro 2004 Football Championships. One of Brazil?s greatest footballers, Ronaldinho, had the following to say:

"I am glad to hear GNR has confirmed their participation at the Rock In Rio Lisbon.   Axl's powerful performance during Rock in Rio 2001 was amazing.  I saw him perform and energize an audience of more than 200,000 people; running on the stage from one side to the other and right into the middle of the crowd that was singing along with him, was unforgettable. Definitively one of my favorites acts of the Festival.  Huge show" - Ronaldo Nazario de Lima

And when the music is over?Guns N? Roses will still be making a difference as the band will be sponsoring a child through the CHILDREACH  PLAN , the designated charity of the ROCK IN RIO -LISBON  FESTIVAL 2004..

As Rock in Rio ? Lisbon and Guns N? Roses prove, music can help make a better world?.

As I said, this is the English equivalent of what is on the RIR site, and technically, it is supposed to appear on the English version of the site, which is not open yet  peace

Yeah but I think that might be a chance of Multishow or even Globo broadcasting it

Man I gotta go there even if I have to drive through 1.100km!
Any news about the other bands? I'm gonna go anyway just for GNR... but if there's some more R&Roll wouldn't hurt instead of madonna, brineys and timberlakes or some shit like that

I believe that you can avoid any act you dont wanna see.

I did it at Leeds. I got out of the crowd during Slipknot's and Offspring's set.

Why can't you do it during Madonna's set?

I'll be there for the whole week.

I'm a Globo employeer. I'll try to find if we have plans to broadcast the show (although it's too soon to ask this).
But It's so much easy to be broadcasted by Multishow (it's the same Globo Network, but it's a cable station...).
All I know is Globo TV is gonna do the whole brazillian support for the RIR - Lisbon with a lot of marketing.  yes

"A gutsy promoter has booked Guns N' Roses as a headlining act for the Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival, which begins May 29 and runs for five nights in Lisbon, Portugal. If they actually appear, GN'R will be playing the second night of the event. It will be the first time the band would take the stage since its tour last year was canceled after the group failed to show up to gigs in Vancouver and Philadelphia, sparking riots in both cities. ..." - MTV.com

That's not negative that's right fucking on. It's gutsy to book this band, they really don't have the best track record. I know there will probably be someone who'll sponsor a tour tour, but to be honest, I don't know why. Even though I think CC tried some sneaky shit, but for a band that is so closely associated with riots, and fans thinking its an excuse to do so, if I was a GM of a venue I sure as hell would think twice before letting them play in my arena. But perhaps this will get people to pay attention to see what the blow up will be, and they might see, or get reports of a great show. smoking

The show will be broadcasted on portuguese tv SIC Radical (a part of the SIC TV network) which has an agreement or some sort of deal with Globo. It has had this deal for lots of years so Globo might get the exclusive in Brazil

I haven't posted in a couple of months, and its great to be back on HTGTH from Sydney, Australia on my college abroad program.

I must say when it comes to this news that Im excited but reserved. I don't think Axl will back off from this gig, but we need to start hearing about more booked gigs and an album/single release between now and then or else it goes to shit and means absolutely nothing, as his past gigs are worth personally to me. I was glad he bailed out on the last tour - there's no reason to waste anytime with the new GNR if they're not gonna play the new songs. I only wished he hadn't done it the way he did it in Philly. I also get the sense that this RIO show like the last, Axl was "forced/pressed" to do the show.

Nonetheless, its a damn fuckin' miracle that GNR still exists in the way that it does and that they can still headline big concerts like RIO.

Congradulations AXL ok
