Catcher in the Rye (the book)

As I've started to enjoy the song more and more, I decided it was time I finally read this book. I was always quite ashamed of not having read it, what with it being one of the most famous and celebrated books of all time. Now I've actually read it, I'm rather proud I lasted so long without bothering to do so. What an absolute load of badly-written, repetitive, plotless nonsensical shit.

I've read about 100 pages of it but didn't finish although I do think it's a good book what I've read of it.
One of the reasons it's so classic, is cause it says what the main character is really thinking and it was controversial back in the day.

Read it in High School , I think, but remember nothing about it. Wasn't planning on reading again either.
The song really growing on you? Not me. I think it's ok, but I always find myself losing interest in it at some point.

It's basically about this 16 year-old kid who failed out of school and he practically hates everybody and everything.

I read it a long time ago and I remember
not
liking it. I can't understand why people appreciate it that much. Salinger is a very good writer, but
CITR
is by far the worst book I have ever read

It was banned at one time.
But, there are many good books that are banned.

its about a kid who got into a mental institution and he decides to write how he got there.
then he starts to tell us what had happened to him about a year ago, somewhere around x-mass
he dropped out of boarding school, and moved to new York.
he has problems with everything and everybody.
he hates almost everyone (except his young sister).
all his characters have personality, and you can find almost any human fault in them.
as the book goes on you actually hate all the characters "Holden" hates (at least I did)
at the end of the book, after a week of meeting different characters, and getting disappointed, he finally meets his young sister and they go home.
after that he ends up in the asylum.

There can never be enough good things said about this book
But I found that it's very divisive - people either LOVE it or HATE it.
I think it's one of, if not THE best thing I've read.

I freakin' loved Catcher In The Rye!
It's great reading about the past. Everything was apparently "peachy" in America around the time the story takes place. But then Holden sheds light on everything. It's an interesting book, and Mr. Caufield grows on you. And I experienced the same thing Luciano was talking about. I hated all those phony people.
