I remember in the early 90s you'd see the "Charlie Don't Surf" and other Manson shirts at boardwalks and the like. Did Axl make them popular, or where they a fad at the time that Axl embraced?

They were around, but I guess Axl gave them a little more press at the time.

Between wearing the shirts and covering "Look at Your Game Girl" on The Spaghetti Incident, I'd say he did a fair amount to popularize Manson in general, merchandise included...

Charles Manson has been popular for long before Axl wore the Tshirt.  Do you think that they made that shirt esp for him? no He bought it just like everyone else did....

Axl did help popularise C. Manson stuff.

Look at Fred Durst and the red cap he wears, they've been around for along time but there sales deffiantly went up when Fred Durst was noted for wearing one.

and how many people knew he sang that song?? Only went platinum TSI.. I don't think he hurt sales by wearing it.. What he did do is fuck up gnr being on a beavis and butthead t shirt.. GUNS were supposed to be on either beavis or butthead's t shirt but the wearing of the manson shirt caused them to pass over gnr..

Manson's name and image have been integrated into American pop culture generally as a symbol of ultimate evil. Never did never will expect reply... HITLER didnt kill himself either.

It was already quite popular, but Axl did push this popularity up a bit.
