When all I've got is precious time

« on: March 28, 2006, 11:22:12 PM »

The one thing I really can?t wait to hear on the final studio tracks is the orchestration.  Pretty much all the songs have them and I am sure on the demos and live version its just basic orchestration and it will be even better on the albums. We know that some people like Buckmaster and Marko B did orchestration for the album and I am assuming they use real instruments, I think songs like TWAT and Madagascar are going to be given new life with the orchestration and they are going to blow us away. The orchestration on TWAT is too low in the mix and I hope they raise it a tad and same with Axls voice.  I just think these songs are going to sound amazing with all the band playing and the underlying orchestration.

I'm sure he wanted to go all out with the orchestration. The potential is there to make it very interesting.

The last bit info I remember reading about Buckmaster was from you in fact:

thanks goes to the rumor board
the adm emailed Buckmaster who worked on the song and asked him about it.

Here is what he said

"Prostitute is a mid-up, kind of biting, aggressive rhythm section; vocals were only guides, not finished at the time I was working on it, so can?t really say what kind of character they are; the way I wrote for the string section (32-piece, consisting of ten 1st Violins, eight 2nd Violins, six violas, and eight cellos) gives the song another dimension of, as I said, ice and fire, kind of powerful."

Imagine hearing this song live.  They'll need a full orchestra.  Maybe Axl will hire the USC Thornton Symphony Orchestra - right in his own backyard  Cheesy  cmon Axl!  Show some Trojan love!

No they wont, that is what Chris is for, all that stuff will be programed into his computer.

So........ if it is a real orchestra on the songs, then Pittman better upload those notes to his computer before the European tour starts.  Or they do a proper live orchestra for the shows, but that could get expensive.

I've been waiting for a studio version of Madagascar ever since I first heard it for this very reason. That song has so much potential to sound amazing if a full orchestra arragement is added to it.

they did use an actual orchestra.

i remember back when i started looking at the boards, and there was an article that there were a couple horn players going in and recording some stuff.

Buckmaster pretty much said that TWAT is a forgettable song   .  He thinks it sucks   so don't expect much from that one  .    He did praise "Seven"   I believe.

I have a feeling that they may be trying to bury Axl's voice in the mix to an extent to hide whatever weakness it may have. The orchestration on 'There Was A Time' is faint yes but bear in mind it's a demo and will probably sound a lot better on the record when it's released. The main thing I wanted to hear was Axl. I wanted to know how he had adapted Guns N' Roses and his voice. From the demo's you can hear that he definetly still has 'it'. I especially love 'Catcher in the Rye' and how his voice sounds so clean and fresh. I like that better than a screeching noise. ok

Live!! From Burning Hills, Wellington...

« Reply #14 on: March 29, 2006, 04:50:20 AM »

I assume, given the vast amounts of money spent and the enormity of the project, it will be a real orchestra on most songs. Live, they'll presumably sample or something like that.

It concerns me a little that there might be too much of this - in parts, if it sounds right, Im all for it - however, it could sound flabby and overindulgent if not applied subtley and sparingly

CD will probably sound a lot like the Queen album a night at the opeara or something like that.

 Huh

I really love the song TWAT. Especially the guitar melody, i whistle it all the time. If Buckmaster thinks TWAT is "forgettable" and praises 'Seven', Seven must be pretty damn good!

As long as they keep it to a couple of songs and do it properly I'd like to hear an orchestra, and a real one is better than a computer one.
