I always thought that the chemistry Slash and Axl had was similar to the chemistry Plante and Page had. It doesn't happen often.

For the people who dont think gnr were bigger than AC DC or LZ for that matter at one point, all you need to do is look at these numbers.
he band played a total of 192 dates in 27 countries during the
Use Your Illusion World Tour (110 in the USA and 82 more all over the
world). Over seven million people had seen the band perform during the tour.
Jan of 1991 Gnr headline both night of RIR playing in front over over 260,000 people.
May 26th, 1992 - Show at the Berlin Olympic Stadium in front of 40,000 fans
May 27th, 1992 - Biggest show of the tour so far, 75.000 people at the Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart, Germany.
June 3rd, 1992 - ?Hannover, Germany to play at the Niedersachsen Stadium in front of a crowd of 60,000.
June 6th, 1992 - Pay Per View show in Paris, France in front of 58,000 people
June 13th, 1992 - Wembley Stadium in front of 72,000 people
June 16th, 1992 - 25,000 people see GN'R at the Gateshead International Stadium in Newcastle, England
June 20th, 1992 - Show in Wurzburg, Germany in front of 45,000
June 21st, 1992 - Basel, Switzerland 50,000 people
June 27th, 1992 - Turin, Italy ?65,000 fans
ay 22nd, 1993 -Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv, Israel. Over 40 000 fans had gathered to see GN'R at the biggest concert held in Israel.
June 10th, 1993 29,000 at the Valle Hovin stadium in Oslo, Norway.
June 12th, 1993 - Show in front of 31 000 at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden
June 22nd, 1993 - 50,000 ?at Wildparkstadion in Karlsruhe, Germany
July 8th, 1993 - Nancy, France ?20,000
July 16th, 1993 - ?70,000 at the River Plate Stadium
That is just some shows for that tour. LZ or AC DC were NEVER that big

That doesn't matter though Dave. Of Course Guns were bigger than both those bands in the early 90's but there is no way Guns are bigger now or ever will be than Zeppelin. Zeppelin are top 5 maybe top 3 of all time. Guns N' Roses can't touch them. In my opinion Guns N' Roses are a blip on the radar in comparison to Led Zeppelin. Don't get me wrong I'd take Guns N' Roses over Zeppelin anyday but in reality Zeppelin trumps Gn'R. I dont' make the rules but that's just how it is.

Dave you do realize that AC/DC has been playing to those kind of numbers since the late 70's correct? ?To this day they can still sell out a festival and any arena they play in......just give it up man, no one is denying that Guns had a successful jolt in the early 90s, but AC/DC was doing it WAY before and LONG after. ?It's time to ween yourself from Axl's noodle and give credit to the OTHER SUCCESSFUL BANDS THAT EXIST IN THE WORLD, not only GNR. ?We all love GNR, but c'mon, give it a break.

Like I said, no one was bigger than gnr in the early 90s. Do you remember the craz for the UYI release? That NEVER? happened for AC DC or Zeppelin. I am not saying gnr is bigger than either of those bands right now but from 90-93 neither of those bands were that popular at their height than gnr was at their height. The only band that was that popular at their height was the? beatles.
When I say no was bigger than gnr from 90-93 I am talking about at any time period for a 3 year span. You pick any three year span for LZ or AC DC and they dont come close to how huge gnr were for those three years.

no one makes rules for GUNS N ROSES.....thats for sissy bands like the one in your avatar...?
That was a dumb comment in an effort to prove your "point". If Axl can have one tenth the success U2 is having, Axl will be a lucky man. A band that consistently releases critically acclaimed albums and has mega successful tours you think is a "sissy" band? What does that make Axl then? Put new GNR up on stage against U2. Axl might not even show up. Now back to ACDC....
If you look at the 70's until now, ACDC wins this battle easily. They have been selling out arenas and stadiums since before Highway to Hell came out, but when that album came out, they got mega huge on a global scale. No one on earth has not heard Highway to Hell, and that opening riff has been played at more sporting events then Jungle ever will(Jungle is played more now though).
ACDC was so successful, when Scott died it wasn't even considered that big of a deal. Hell, ACDC whipped up a kick ass band defining album so quick fans didnt even get to mourn Bon Scott. This would be like Axl dying in 1990 and old GNR hiring a new singer and within a month or two make an album that tops AFD. Think about it, people. What ACDC did was pretty much impossible, but they did it anyways.
ACDCs music speaks to the global community. Yeah, their albums arent what they used to be, but they give their fans what they want, and their tours are very successful, even to this day. Send ACDC to any country or any town and the show sells out. There isnt 5 people waiting two hours for the band to show up. When the clock strikes 8 pm, you are hearing some kick ass rock n roll.
As far as musical and historical "impact", GNR has them beat. As some of you have said, only the Beatles measure up against 87-91 GNR. I dont think anyone will ever be able to top GNR's success at that timeframe. They were invincible, made classic albums, and could blow anyone off the stage. This topic should be brought up again after a CD release and a tour.
Those that were about to compare the GNR and Led Zep resumes need to see a doctor.

this is so ridiculous. (but i'm bored at work).
gnr ALMOST became the NEXT led zeppelin. zeppelin is the standard that gnr was compared to (one of them anyway....aerosmith and the stones being others).
gnr was/is huge. and if they had stayed together and released a couple more albums, they would have been talked about in the same class as the all time greats. but the reality is they have about 50 original songs. zeppelin has almost 50 songs on their greatest hits.
zeppelin has 2 or 3 albums on AFD's level.

İn behind the music: Guns N' Roses a guy mentioned the crazyness that was going on, the week uyi's was released and he said something like nothing was compared to this, well except for Led Zeplin. so in this shows they like to exaggerate the band, but they couldn't do that enough, cause they know that no one would buy ''Gn'r was even bigger than LZ''
I don't think that album sales are that important. It's all about the legacy.Slash was in that show but i doubt that anyone from ACDC would show up for a Gn'r tv program. Most of the respect comes from the years they showed up.IF GN'r was a 6o's-70's group and ACDC or LZ was a 80's-90's group it would be a diffrent story.

ACDC's great popularity is rather limited to the US, unlike that of GNR, I guess.
AC/DC is *HUGE* in Europe and still fill stadiums. Had GNR not vanished for a decade, it might have been close. But at the moment, AC/DC is a big rock act and will outdraw GNR.

Part of what makes GNR so legendary is the "what ifs" and "could have beens" -- kind of like when an athlete dies in his prime or retires early.
If you are talking about BIG in terms of each band in their prime? I don't think anyone can beat GNR when they were the biggest band in the world. As stated in many other threads, Axl couldn't fart without Circus, Rip and Kerrang reporting on it - Guns WAS MTV News for about 5 years in a row. Everyone from punk kids to middle aged men were rocking out to AFD.
AC/DC to me was never close to being that big. They have one MAJOR album that will always be considered a classic - but I dont' think they have had near the impact guns has (and thats not being biased, to me its just fact).

Led Zepplin was like Walter Payton...they were the greatest
ACDC was like Emmit Smith...endurance and sticking around for a long time giving the same everyday numbers, just like ACDC gives the same type of hard rock in your face music on every album(nothing wrong with that...they never let you down...just like emmit smith)
GNR was like Barry Sanders....in their prime they couldn't be touched....but the left early and no one really knew how great they would be.....Barry Sanders had the ability to be the greatest ever....GNR had the ability to be the greatest ever....but no one knows for sure if it would of happened b/c they retired/fell off the face of the earth fast

I'd say zep was more like Jim Brown....if Bonham doesn't die they'd still be around making music probably, so they are still regarded as the best ever, but you can argue they could have done even MORE had they played till they couldn't play anymore.

Sorry, Guns N Roses was NEVER EVER biger than Zeppelin, EVER
when GnR was at the top of their popularity,
Stairway to Heaven
would still win those top 500 rock song of all time polls, and still does, thirty something years after it was released
Bigger than AC/DC, from 88-92 Thats fair to say
But bigger than Led Zeppelin, not a chance

If the band in question wasn't AC/DC but Led Zeppelin, this could have been an intresting topic... ?
if this was zepplin vs gnr it would be laughable
I agree with you there Mike. I like Guns way more than Zeppelin but in all honesty Guns N' Roses dont' compare to Led Zeppelin in terms of overall greatness. Not even close. ?I can admit that.
The only way GnR should even be brought into a conversation would be a hypothetical, and that would be, if the original band had stayed together, and had release albums in regular intervals from 91-present, than maybe, just maybe you could mention them in the same breath......but that's still a reach
