« on: March 18, 2006, 07:26:17 PM »

I just caught the tail end of a show called, "Ultimate Albums" on VH1.

They showcased ACDC.

They said something like "in 1986, 10,000 requests for Back in Black were being asked for world wide".

I've read on here that GNR's AFD is one of the best selling albums of all time.

GNR came out after ACDC but are the similarities this:

they both sell out festivals?
they both kick ass?
they both have a high requested album that still sells many copies to this day?

Has anyone seen this show and maybe can correct what I thought was said about the units for ACDC's album being 10,000 units.

What is the current number of copies sold for AFD each month?

I have seen people debate U2 vs GNR but is it better to debate ACDC and GNR since I don't classify U2 as rock n roll...more as pop rock.

Any imput? Grin

This is a quote from HTGTH's frontpage:

"Appetite For Destruction still sells around 5000 copies per week in the USA."

Hope that helps somehow  Tongue

5000 per week in USA?

Okay, but ACDC sold 10,000 worldwide according to this show but I don't know if that was per week.

ACDC's great popularity is rather limited to the US, unlike that of GNR, I guess.

I say ACDC are bigger right now, They could announce a tour here in Australia and sell it out within a day, And for a band that are so inconsistent with music quality, I say thats pretty good.

ACDC's great popularity is rather limited to the US....

You might not want to say that to an Aussie..

As a sidenote, that particular "Ultimate Albums" episode was first aired in 2003...

Back In Black has sold more than Appetite For Destruction.

But, GNR was the bigger band in terms of popularity.

Well, im just going by RIAA. Appetite For Destruction hasn't been acredited in awhile. I don't know the last time BIB was acredited.

Offically BIB has sold more.

So do you think then CD will sell more than BIB since it's been dubbed the most anticipated album of all time?

I think ACDC was bigger than GNR but I just don't know the actual #'s of albums sold by ACDC.

GNR is and always will be relevant but will CD sales be what they need to push themselves over BIB?

I'm sure the total sales wise, ACDC is much bigger in the US. I've seen it somewhere. And polly the down under too.

I hear Buckethead took the guitar because he liked ACDC.

In order for CD to sell more than BIB it will have to sell more than AFD and that isn't likely to happen. Illegal downloading, industry slowdown, ect.
