I'm thinking they got this mixed up with Slash, because he worked with Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz.

Actually, I'm surprised to see Jason Newsted involved in something like this, I thought he was committed to his new band Voivod, and they've got a new album coming out soon too.

Interesting mix though:

Gilby - Classic / Stones'y Rock
Jason - Metal
Tommy - Glam Rock

I wonder what style of music they'll come up with... Shocked

TORONTO (CP) - Former members of Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue have banded together for the next season of Rock Star.

Supernova - featuring Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and Gun N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke - will use the popular reality TV show to find a lead singer.

INXS did the same thing last year to enormous success, choosing Nova Scotia-bred J.D. Fortune to front the Australian band.

Rock Star talent scouts are currently auditioning hopefuls around the world. The crew stopped in Toronto earlier this week where about 2,000 tried their luck. The show heads to Vancouver on March 23 for more auditions.

Last season, 15 finalists - which included four Canadians - were selected for the show, hosted by Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke.

The winner of Rock Star will record an album with Supernova.

The CD will be produced by Butch Walker, who's written or produced tracks for Avril Lavigne, Pink and Bowling for Soup.

Since his Motley Crue days, Lee has released three solo albums and most recently starred in the reality TV show Tommy Lee Goes to College. Newsted left Metallica in 2003 to form Echobrain. He also performed with Voivod. Since Guns N' Roses split, Clarke has worked with various artists including Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz.

The new season of Rock Star is expected to air this summer on Global.

As far as I know, he only appeared in the "Give in to me" video alongside Slash.

It's strange, but I can't picture Jason Newsted musically fitting with the 2 other guys. I always figured he was quite the metalhead. Well, wait and see I suppose....

I'm sure he will be fitting in, just look at his other project he used to work with for a while 'Echobrain'.

That's pop/rock.

It's nice to see Gilby get this-I think he deserves it-he kind of kept things going for me in the mid to late 90's when there was not much going on at all in the Guns n Roses world-his solo albums started selling less and less, and I remember going to concerts of his where there were maybe 40 or 50 people-it's hard to knock him for turning this down-Gilby has a strong opinion on the type of music he likes to do-it should be interesting to see how he gets along with Tommy and Jason-I just think this is shaping up to be a great year-like I said, remember the mid to late 90's? This year we will have this, a new Guns album, and a new Velvet Revolver album-I think we are all in for a fun ride.
