Soul Asylum Tour Dates:
Mar 17 2006 7:30A  Kegs & Eggs at Lulu's Washington, DC
Mar 17 2006 8:00P 9:30 Club Washington, DC
Apr 12 2006 8:00P Fine Line Music Cafe Minneapolis, MN
Apr 14 2006 8:15P Liacouras Center  Philadelphia, PA
Jul 1 2006 8:30P Oneida Bingo & Casino Oneida, WI
Jul 2 2006 7:00P Summerfest Milwaukee, WI
Jul 3 2006 7:00P Taste of Minnesota St. Paul, MN
Jul 8 2006 7:00P Basilica of St. John's Rochester, MN

The latest Soul Asylum dates would seem to suggest that Soul Asylum is trying to accomodate Tommy's GNR commitments. Will Tommy try to balance two bands? Is he merely fufilling a contractual commitment to GNR, then back to Soul Asylum? If he was going to abandon Soul Asylum, I don't think he would do these dates. Not to Say Tommy has committed to them, but the choice of dates appears as if they are working around the GNR calendar.

that is interesting. It will be a very heavy summer for Mr Stinson. I feel that he is betting on two horses. Remember, these guys are professional musicians, they need to get paid. Who knows how long GNR will tour? Tommy does need to work to put bread on the table. Looks like he isn't that certain of being in GNR, or maybe he just enjoys doing these SA shows?

It would be very easy for SA to find a bass player for those dates.  Remember Stinson has to start rehearsing with GNR within the next few weeks.

I agree, but no dates in May or June? It seems like too much of a coincidence.

I don't like this Soul Asylum connection...more generally I don't like when bandmembers are making other "projects" with other bands when they are in GNR. I don't have problems with solo projects, but playing with other pretty notorious bands, it's weird. do they consider GNR as "just a project"? Just a paycheck? Either they are Gunners, meaning real members, or they'd better leave the band. GNR is not a job-office. Sorry, maybe it's my European vibe, but I'm not fond of "contracts" when it comes to music. Does Bono gave The Edge or Adam Clayton a "contract" to sign to say they are in U2? I mean, have you ever seen The Edge playing with another band and consider U2 as "just a project" for him?

I agree with your sentiment Nesquick, but I doubt if Tommy agrees with that. As I stated before, when you are a professional musician you need to play to earn money. I wonder if I would put all my money on GNR, since the 2002 tour was pulled out of a sudden. Maybe Tom isn't that certain of Axl's reliability.

I also hope that SA just gets another bass player and these past gigs were a one time thing for Tommy. It must be very exhausting to play in both bands.

the bass player for SA isnt realy important... the singer and guitarist are the only famous ones people realy know anyways.... they can get someone else.. i dont think Axl would like that very much if tommy was moonlighting... i dont think tommy would do that either... he has invested years in the new GnR and im sure he would drop everything for this band...

Yes and no.  Tommy is paid a six-figure yearly salary for GnR work, whether or not they tour.  He will make substantially more when GnR tours.  I'm sure the soul asylum gigs will pay him next to nothing.  (In other words, he wouldn't be doing those gigs for financial reasons.)

Well, at least until people realize the guitarist isn't Slash.
