Richard Fortus, the phenomenon

« Reply #40 on: March 16, 2006, 12:47:13 PM »

I would like to see also Richard play cello with GNR like with the Psychedellic Furs, I also saw a video a couple of month ago where he played Keyboard with his guitar, it was pretty surprising, he played guitar but it sounded like a keyboard. it was pretty cool. But I lost the video, sorry.

Richard plays cello on Without a View off Tommy's solo record-first song. It sounds great and that tune is the best on the album in my opinion. hihi

I like that solo. I think its good. Its a lot better when he plays it clean.

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

Finck is hard for me to get a handle on.   Some of his stuff is unusual and unexpected, and good (like the little intro SCOM or the Blues solo).  And some of it is truly horrible, like the out-of-tune (and key) little solo after Buckethead's solo at RIR. Generally, his biggest "problem" is that he is not a big Les Paul sustain-type player, and that's Slash's bread and butter.   So, even when Finck has the same tone sound and hits the right notes, he just doesn't have the same sustain/vibrato that Slash had, so the notes sound "pinched" or off.  But some of the times he nails it.

Fortus is all-around very, very solid player.  Technically, the better player of the two.

I see Finck as more of a studio player myself rather than a live player. ?I'm not too fond of him live but if his contributions to CD are anything like the leaked songs I think we're in for a treat. beer

Personally, they should have Fortus play all of Slash's leads-much closer in tone and feel to Slash than Robin. Robin should just play his solos on the new material. Undecided What they are going to do about the Buckethead situation is quite a mystery. Huh

Or Personally, GNR should play as many new materials as possible.  peace

I think so too.

And they may play as much new material as possible, for them, which could be a song or two.

Neither Finck nor Fortus can play thoses finger tapping parts of Buckethead. They will have to be changed live unless we get a new guitarist who can do it. John 5 could.... Brian May could... EVH could..>!
