Here Today...

« on: March 13, 2006, 10:10:27 PM »

I just want to know what people want out of VR. alot of people here hate VR cause its a one sided thing. ither your on axls side or VR's side. but to be honest contraband was a fucking great album. they realy reqruited scott and a few months later theres a album. not the best aproach to take with a new album. but contraband is a great rock album. ( could have been better tho  hihi )  in the next album, well since they have time now i think that we will all see the band we all want. a classic GNR sound with a brand new twist. but everything everyone wants. and with scotts amazing lyrics and his out of this world voice the next album should IMO be the foundation of this band. the first album was wiped to gether realy fast. but it was no where close to as good as it could have been. this album will kind of have that amazing ness to it. like AFD or illusions.

What do you all think will come of the new album and what do you want out of VR?

Oh man... I have been getting really excited for their next album.  I just want it to rock out with songs like "Sucker Train Blues" and "Dirty Little Thing".   I think with Contraband the guys were trying to find themselves still.  The songs were kinda all over the place in their styles.. I think their most original sound would be songs like "Superhuman" , "Slither" and "Come On Come In" and I think they should continue in that direction also.. They shouldn't try and bury their past either.. Slash is awesome at what he does and he should be able to tear it up a little more and it was obvious alot of fans were disappointed that there wasn't more of Slash letting loose on Contraband.. There is actually more than you think, but alot of it is just mixed waay down and you cant hear his cool fills and shit.  It would also be cool if they let loose and got somewhat psychadelic.  Also, I don't want to hear anything that sounds remotely close to an 80's power ballad like "Fall To Pieces"!!!

Anything that'll make the blowhards in the GN'R section shut up...  Wink

On a more serious note, a real nice hard rockin album, hopefully with Slash's trademark LP riffs ( and without any Strat experimentations on his part). Songs with just rhythm, lead, drums, bass and vocals and minimal effects.

Same here... I'd like see more classic rock like Sucker Train Blues, Dirty Little Thing and not modern shit like Superhuman. I wanna hear Slash playing bluesy riffs and I think he should stop trying to not sound like himself. Slither was ok but I don't like the Drop-D tunes. And Come On, Come In was just garbage... a safe sounding Slither rip-off with weak riffs imo.

One of the guitars in Dirty Little Thing is in Drop D..... I really do not see the problem with Drop D songs.. Bands have been using that shit forever. Even classic rock groups..  My band is doing a Queen song and that is in Drop D....

Those are the styles I want them to explore further too. ok

No doubt from what the guys have said, this should be a stronger effort than their already solid debut with Contraband.

I'm not anti Drop-D, but on most songs I don't like the heavy sound of it, the riff in Superhuman sounds a little to much nu-metal to me..  And I don't think Dirty Little Thing is in Drop-D. Doesn't sound like it and doesn't look like it judging from the Leno video.

I am pretty sure Slash is in standard and Dave is in Drop D...? I could be wrong...

More experimental, not in a crazy way but maybe some strings/orchestration on the slower songs and longer solos from Slash as someone else said.

1. Longer solos
2. Some epics
3. More ary type songs with some creative muscle.
4. A cover of "Madagascar"  hihi

guess there is no chance for you RN Cheesy

I hope whoever mixes the album makes scott's voice clearer... If you listen to Core or Purple from stp his voice is so damn strong n clear... The instruments in vr seem to drown him out.. That needs to be worked on imo

That is a great point. Before CB came out, I was expecting something like Core, and maybe thats one of the reasons I was really disappointed in the album. Maybe they should remix/remaster Contraband, and release it again. hihi

1. Agree
2.  no
3. We had Loving the alien and the song had the right feel. I'd like to hear more stuff like that, the new album could be more song or riff than energy-oriented.
4. VR has/had better songs.  Lips Sealed

mikk I would take many songs of contraband over maddy.. maddy is a safe cool song, other then that it does nothing for me..  How many keyboard paino based songs are new gnr going to have, or how many songs is axl going to be talking about ancient ex romances or himself in some other way..

I think Madagascar, TWAT, The Blues are cool songs for Axl. Let him do what he wants, he was always more of an epic/soft rock fan than a rock 'n' roll fan. Those songs are good ones, but nothing earth-shattering. No problem. He's singing about his ex-wifes and girlfriends - good for him. I don't really care about the lyrics - some people act like Axl's lyrics would be like the Bible. Good for them. I don't think that some lyrics would change my life, so don't expect them to be 'meaningful' and 'deep'. If I feel it is, then I'm happy. Geez, it's not the secong coming of Jesus.

VR should do what they want to do - rock the world!
