Some Kind Of Monster

I saw this Metallica documentary (Some Kind of Monster) this weekend. Ever since they kicked Jason outta the band?
I've been put off of Metallica. After seeing this film~ Ugh!?
I'm not sure I'll ever be a Metallica fan again.
Does anyone else feel this way? What did you guys think of the film?

Yeah me too. The again I've never respected Metallica much in 1st place and never was anywhere near being a fan of em.
It really is a very powerfull and well made document. A great watch for basically everyone. regardless what you think of the band itself.
It is very easy to understand Metallica fans that hate it though.
I don't want to see my idols sobbing non stop, going through long emo palavers, picking goddamned milk from grocery store.
Idols need to be somewhat distant

Yeah Jason "quit". He wanted to do a side project while the rest of the guys spent time with thier families since Jason didn't have a family (except his music~ in his words). James told him he could not do anything outside of Metallica. (What a prick.) Jason quit, but did not WANT to. In my eyes, he was simply told to go. They didn't really try to stop him, now did they? It was nice to see Lars and Kirk support Jason in Echobrain.
Did it bother anyone that a Heavy Metal band had a therapist?? Of course if Guns N' Roses had gotten a therapist maybe they would still be together...
(Thanks ClintroN Part 4 - Apocalypse Of The Under-Belly You Rock too!!

That's not necessarily true, Jason guested on one of Sepultura's albums without problem from James. I think James was concerned that he was pouring too much effort into Echobrain and not Metallica.
It's a great film, but I think Metallica's documentaries "A Year & A Half in the Life Of Metallica pt 1 & 2" are better films for the average music fan. Really great doco's on life on the road and in the studio of a big rock band. Check 'em out!

It was a great watch. And they did end up with a very talented bass player with Rob of Ozzy and BLS. I just think that the therapist wasn't needed. They are Metallica and you'd think they could straighten out the problems in the band like men and bang out some real raw music from them working out the hardships.. Ah well... great watch tho.

Yeah, I always felt bad for him. I'm surprised he didn't leave after 'And Justice for All'. But he hadn't been with the band long, and probably thought things would get better. They did somewhat, but he must have tired of the treatment after awhile.

That brings up another question I had. Do they abuse the new bassist as much as they did Jason? From what I heard they ragged him all the time. Like James was trying to toughen him up.

I have no idea. I wouldnt doubt it. I havent paid any attention to Metallica in years. I've never heard St. Anger. Hopefully the new bassist doesnt get treated like that.

I feel the same, hard to explain-they have an interesting history, like watching interviews, like some songs, but could never get into them

The new bassist Rob doesn't play on St. Anger, Bob Rock does. Rob joined the band after they finished the album already.

From what I've seen, they treat Rob with the utmost respect, which after how they treated Jason, is pretty hypocritical of them.
I think they did that to Jason though, because they didn't properly mourn Cliff's death, and from interviews I've read, they said they didn't want Jason just walking into this "perfect situation" of stepping into an already popular band, so that's why there was a hazing period, which from the sounds of it went on for a long time.
